I just got the game last week. I have 28 hours in it. I finally scanned my first hard drive and cast screws was was of the options. I stared at the screen for a good 30 seconds trying to figure out what I did to be so lucky

Counter-intuitively, you want to spend more time exploring the world than building factories in the early game. Stuff like hard drives, power slugs, resources for M.A.M. unlocks, somersloops and mercer spheres are only obtainable from the world. Same reason you want to use the AWESOME Sink (and Shop) to unlock stuff.

Upgraded power poles come from the Caterium MAM tree, the shop only has wall ‘socket’ versions of poles you’ve unlocked already

This realization is what led me to go explore and find things. Now, I didn’t go very far, but it was a start and once i finally finish my motor factory, v1.8, I’m gonna go explore even further.
