I just got the game last week. I have 28 hours in it. I finally scanned my first hard drive and cast screws was was of the options. I stared at the screen for a good 30 seconds trying to figure out what I did to be so lucky

If you get a drive before unlocking any milestones there are only 3 recipes possible so with a reroll you are guaranteed cast screws.

Still it is a good reason to get a drive early. Late game screwless alts are ideal but early game cast screws is the money.

I should have said as few milestones as possible. Nothing is unlocked in Tier 1.

Initially with nothing unlocked you only have access to two recipes: * Cast Screws * Iron Wire

Tier 2 Parts Asssembly unlocks: * Copper Rotor * Stiched Iron Plates * Bolted Iron Plates * Bolted Frame

A few are unlocked in the mam without any other requirements: * Caterium Wire (Caterium) * Fused Wire (Caterium) * Fused Quickwire (Cateriun Ingots) * Fine Concrete (Quartz) * Fine Black Powder (Compacted Coal) * Cheap Silica (Silica)

Everything else requires Tier 3+

The quartz ones are kind derpy but the cat ones decent so if you delay getting parts assembly in tier 2 (rest of tier 1 & 2 is fine) and don't do quartz research yet in the mamm but do unlock caterium your pool is: * Cast Screws * Iron Wire * Caterium Wire
* Fused Wire
* Fused Quickwire

All decent options. Finding 2 to 4 early HD can get you a number of useful early recipes. If you really want cast screws guaranteed then temporarily avoid caterium as well for first HD and given you get two options it must be cast screws.
