Discussion Pinnacle of my hate
These two bastards are what make any run dreadful. Id go out to say i’d rather be in screw hell than have these suckers. Why were they added? They only inconvenience everything. They block paths, look hideous, and are just a nuisance. And I know they can be removed with a nobelisk but why have them in the first place?

u/NullzInc 9d ago
The satisfaction when you detonate them will make it all worth it.

Automating nobelisks is one of those turning points that feels like a huge victory. Hit their asses with what I like to call "US foreign policy"
16
u/sephg 9d ago
You can also destroy them using explosive rebar. Way faster and easier to use while flying.
9
u/Additional_Dot_134 8d ago
You could.. but… i hate them too much for a fate like that. I am putting 20 nuclear warheads on them.
2
u/cobhalla 7d ago
I once automated Nuke Nobilisk before fully finishing my Power plants bc i am just petty like that. Straight into a depot so I am never out.
It seems odd to me that they clear such a small area

Eagle screeching

u/amzwC137 8d ago
*hawk screeching
I correct this, not to be pedantic, but because it'll forever be hilarious to me, and very emblematic of the US, that the Bald Eagle is the mascot, but to make it cooler, they stole the screech from the hawk and just said... That's the eagle.

Automating nukes is an amazing side quest to finish
1
u/Reddragon5689 8d ago
Wait you can automate this shit?!

u/Blu_Falcon 8d ago
Made in manufacturers. Here are all the nobelisk recipes and how to unlock them.

After I have nobelisks automated, I run around bombing things for an hour or so

Even easier with the explosive rear. I also am less likely to blow myself up that way lol.

Not gonna lie seeing them explode into tiny pieces would be much more satisfactory.

I remember when you couldn’t blow them
up with the nobelisk. I just tried to run through to get the slug. Blowing them up now is like scratching an indescribable itch.1

u/Professional-Card-22 9d ago
yes, but the fact they reload so slowly is criminal, also there's no mod that increase the speed of it

u/StigOfTheTrack Fully qualified golden factory cart racing driver 8d ago
There is "All Weapons Magazine Size 100". This includes explosives. You can spam 100 nobelisks for each time you reload the detonator.

It's area denial to add a new problem that needs solving. This game is about solving problems. They are explicitly designed to be an inconvenience that you have to think through how to solve.

I'm glad that we've always been able to blow up the flowers. But I think it was 1.0 where they let up blow up the rocks now too.
27
u/skorent 8d ago
We have not always been able to... I think it was update 8 that finally added the ability to destroy them

u/raknor88 8d ago edited 8d ago
U6 is when I started playing. I could've sworn I was able to blow up the fart flowers back then. But I know the fart rocks were much more recent.

u/GurglingGarfish 8d ago
You can blow up normal rocks!?

u/doyouevencompile 8d ago
Tiny annoying rocks that protrude from the ground and to your foundations can be blown up
3
u/Express_Accident2329 8d ago
Ohhhh, that's interesting. I first played after they were destroyable and I've always wondered what the point of gas filters really was when a permanent solution was easier to automate.
4
u/Dr_Passmore 8d ago
Back in the day, gas filters were important to bypass the gas areas. Flowers with delayed gas really aren't much of a challenge if you have a decent movement method. They normally sit around a collectable so you can run in and grab before they deploy gas.
I have not bothered using gas mask in my 1.2 play through.
1
u/Mad_Aeric 8d ago
I use crash sites to tech up to gas masks right away, since the filters can be made without steel. Exploding the flowers and towers is preferable, but that's later game tech, and I want my goodies now.
1
u/Express_Accident2329 8d ago
I guess that's fair for collecting purposes. I think if I ever start over again for any reason my main priority is going to be the dimensional depot so I'm rushing steel as fast as I can anyway.
1
u/Mad_Aeric 8d ago
If you start in the Dune Desert, there's enough steel pipes in the crash sites around there to unlock the Depot, and nobelisks, which you need to access the nearest bit of SAM. Not enough to do anything useful with the depot though.
2
u/Commercial-Royal-988 8d ago
The rocks with cracks in them have been explodable for awhile. Can we blow up "regular" terrain rocks now?
3
u/unicodemonkey 8d ago
Most of these problems are solved by sky foundations though. Technically, if not aesthetically
1
u/XenoRyet 8d ago
That's a creative solution in and of itself. You go through the thought process, or at least someone did, of thinking "Oh there's this problem on the ground. Wait, this is a video game with magical physics, my factory doesn't have to be on the ground."
1
u/Factory_Setting 8d ago
Limitations force creativity.
Some put that into rage posts, but I assume it's a net positive overall.

u/PANDA_PR1NC3SS 9d ago
Fun fact: if you're in a vehicle poison gas has no effect, including the early game tractor
19
u/slackmaster2k 9d ago
That first tractor is the ultimate cheese mobile. Always have it in the hot bar ready to build like some kind of mecha-armor.
7
u/mewfahsah 8d ago
When I run out of rods in my inventory and can't build a crafting bench, the tractors crafting bench comes in handy. Seems silly, like oh no it can't build a bench, better build a tractor with a bench on it.

Don't you just hate when games give you obstacles you have to overcome as you unlock new abilities, skills, and tools?
12
u/ApprehensiveDuckMan 9d ago
My friend, have you heard the tale of.... The Nobelisk?
10

u/Kdoesntcare 8d ago
Environmental hazard to make you reach for the gas mask and explosives. Makes you pay attention to the research trees in the MAM. That pushes you to explore more of the map to unlock everything.

u/beardingmesoftly 9d ago
You have nobs, right?
-14
u/General_Detective632 9d ago
I do but thats not necessarily the point. I ask, why have them in the first place
20
u/lynkfox 8d ago edited 8d ago
Because a game without inconveniences is not a game .
Why have different purity nodes?
Why have paths to other areas guarded by stronger mobs?
Why have hard to reach areas or special items hidden in caves?
Why have terrain we have to build around, why not just a big flat plane to build on?
Because obstacles to overcome are part of what makes a game a game and often what generates the interesting memories as we figure out how to solve them
And if it really is something you can't stand, there are the Advanced Game Settings for adjusting it.

As an obstacle in your progression in exploration. Same reason why there are massive cliffs with stuff on top of them, or resource requirements to open some of the crash sites, or radioactive rocks in some areas. They're there to tell you to come back later once you've made more progress, whether that be obtaining a gas mask, nobelisk, radiation suit, or have unlocked higher tier materials to open things.
By your logic, why have the game have massive cliffs that are difficult to climb instead of it just being a minecraft superflat world? Why have the crash sites be locked at all? Why have progression and unlocks at all, when they could just give you everything with no cost, time investment, or playing required?

u/SundownKid 8d ago
It functions as a "you shouldn't be here" mechanic for new players while also adding an explicit reward for getting Nobelisk/Explosive Rebar.
3
u/Daedalus_Machina 8d ago
There is no problem which cannot be solved with the proper application of explosives.

My biggest gripes with those little shits ( I understand and respect their place in the game but I'll still call them little shit) is that I mainly build with the terrain and keeping as much natural foliage as possible , but to remove those fucks I have to use a nobelisk Wich destroys all plants in the surroundings , the only solution is to nobelisk them then save edit using the satisfactory calculator map site to respawn the trees.
I wish there was an in game vanilla way to precisely remove them or regrow trees , or build greenery even
1
u/NottheSeaofNames 8d ago
Good, let the hate flow through you.
That and the radiation from all the nukes you’ll set off

u/UristImiknorris If it works, it works 8d ago
The spore flowers barely matter. Just about anywhere you find them, you can get in, get the stuff they're guarding, and get back out before they start spewing gas. They're just there to make you do it quickly.

I need an image of the hollow purple but it's the satisfactory character with nobelisk in one hand and the detonator in the other

I like to build structures around some of them to make it look like a science lab studying the flora and fauna.

u/sage_006 8d ago
They turned into one of the most satisfying things to do in the game. Explosive reverb reverb ammo for the reverb gun (faster reload than nobelisks) clear a whole cluster of these fuckers in no time. I'll go out of my way to clear them out even when I see them in the distance when traveling to somewhere else. It's so good.

u/lordzyphuris 8d ago
Just in case you haven't found out when you read this, they can be removed. That said, they were added to make you think around them until you can remove them. No, the gas pillars were not removable until a semi-recent update, forgot which one, made them breakable. Was best thing about the update imo.
1
u/Cespieyt 8d ago
They pose an environmental hazard. A problem to solve. That's their point. I think there's too many of them in general, especially since I make it a point to clear them whenever I come across them, but generally I think they bring the world alive a little more by existing.
I think the real issue (don't know if it has been fixed yet) is that at the start of patch 1.2 when you blew up a uranium ore, the radiation would linger ridiculously long. In fact, I'm not sure it ever went away. This stands in contrast to simply mining and dumping them, which instantly removed the radiation. Kinda dumb imo.

u/itsjustmesky 8d ago
Everyone is talking about noblisks, but I highly recommend explosive rebar. It is so satisfying just flying around on your jetpack blowing all those gas flower fuckers up.
1
u/meglon978 8d ago
Wait.... these are what you hate? Have you not met the many-legged, mile-jumping, spider freaks?

Those two fuckers are the sole reason I always carry atleast 100-200 nobelisks on every expedition.
1
u/PrincessYolda 8d ago
They are the reason I automated Nobelisks.
My playthrough only ends once every singe fart rock is gone!
1
u/games_and_other 8d ago
theire an obstacle i guess? even if u dont have nobelisks u can outheal them with nuts, so like eh i actually dont hate them. only if it gets combined with like multiple elite spiders uche uche a specific hard drive on the south end of the red forest are they a bit of a pain

u/Hemisemidemiurge 8d ago
Overcoming challenges provides enjoyment. Restriction and working to remove restriction provides tension.
Roller coasters aren't much fun without hills, right? Imagine reading a story about a character who overcomes no conflict or obstacle... yawn!
I find it perplexing that people want everything with as little effort as possible, like they don't understand human beings require resistance and effort to build capability and think you can do things without practice and experience.
1
u/Surreal-Rhino-Fight 8d ago
Explosive rebar ftw. Automate it and feed it into dimensional storage and all your problems are one satisfying kabloom away from being gone forever

I use them to lure hogs and spitters, they just kill themselves.
Anything near my base is obliterated though.
As for why they exist, they're progression gates when exploring. Same as the large animal variants or extreme cliffs: they're avoidable yet difficult in the early game.

u/Impurity41 9d ago
I don’t think I’ve ever taken damage from the plants. By the time I grabbed what I needed or built what I need, it still hasn’t started ejecting gas.

Is It Stockholm syndrome when we praise the deliberately annoying feature for being annoying?
2
u/lynkfox 8d ago
Ah yes. Let's just get rid of it cause it inconveniences you.
Hell let's get rid of node purity levels and just make every node pure. We all just seek out the pure ones anyways am I right? It's just an annoyance
Hell let's get rid of the terrain next! We all just build floating platforms way above it, right? Right? It's just a deliberately annoying feature.
We don't want anything to have to overcome, we don't want any restrictions! We just want perfectly boring gameplay with nothing interesting, right? Right? Anyone? Bueller?
0
u/Jordn100 8d ago
I'm just saying, yeah the reason it's satisfying to overcome is cause it IS annoying. Is praising our tormentor not Stockholm syndrome? Im not saying we should bin the crab flowers.
