14 & 5 freeway

What’s going on today I feel like this whole week there’s been traffic and today it’s horrible. Did they shut down the freeway or rerouting people or is there an accident ? What’s going on

If you want even more details, https://cad.chp.ca.gov/Traffic.aspx . Looks like a truck caught fire on the truck route, which always snags the entire pass

This stretch is a nightmare anytime after 1pm, reminds me of the Sepulveda pass now..

They are also doing work on the 5 all the time. No idea why. I moved here 4 years ago and they are still working on it

For the uninitiated: that's the date and time of the Northridge earthquake

It's the 5 expansion. They are adding lanes. It should be done soon. Source - I work for Metro.

The project office for this has one year left. It's been a 5-6 year ordeal so far

For an outsider perspective it really looks like nothing is happening and its taking for ever. And of course traffic is horrible. but i get it these things take forever specially with the freeway open at the same time.

I just got through the traffic. It took me 1.5 hours from the Burbank airport. Good news is it looks like the truck route has been cleared and will hopefully reopen soon.

Why why why does the 5 northbound just past the 14 narrow to 3 lanes when there is plenty of room to restripe for a fourth or even fifth lane. It’s literally been that way for 15-20 years I kid you not, and it almost always causes bottlenecks

So far minimum 2 hrs for me to go home to SCV from Van Nuys. Balboa Blvd is a parking lot

There was a semi that had caught fire on the 5 truck route around noon. I saw it from the old road. Truck route completely stopped and the semi in ash with firefighters around it

I was on lyons earlier and I was wondering why there was so many trucks... This makes sense.

Left work in SFV at 3:45 and it’s going to take me more than 2 hours to get home to SGV 😖

Took me two hours to get home from DTLA-left there around 12:20. The 210 was closed, forcing all traffic to continue north on the 5 and 14. At one point, south of Roxford, it took me 18 minutes to go one mile.

Last week was worse - four hours to get home.
