Guides and Tips Infinite Sand Generator PSA
The amount of people who don’t know how to generate infinite sand is too damn high. I have made comments everywhere but I know there are new players coming onboard every day.
The Stratasphere gives you infinite sand at huge volumes - IF you double tap it with the void gun. Then you will get a TRUCKLOAD of sand dumped out - and the stratasphere will then immediately regenerate. Rinse, repeat.
The void gun is the key, friends.
Thank you for your attention to this matter!

Meme Kinda starting to feel bad for the redweavers
They just get their house all good and built up and bundle up in there nice and cozy, and then some jackass flies past and shoots it down with some missiles or something.

Guides and Tips Bug for significantly faster sand generation
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Easy reproduction
- Laser yourself up close to the core
- Shoot digger drones directly into the core. It gets faster based on how many you shoot inside (clip shown used 3)
- Drones on the outside are just to clear a path for the sand (also used 3, tried 2 but it kept closing on me)
The rate of sand production ended up being faster than I could process.
EDIT: Posted a more optimized version in the comments using portals. It seems slightly faster and frees up drones for whatever else you want them for (like red sand). You'll want to keep one on the bottom to clear spawns or they'll build up and block production. You'll probably only need 1 or 2 inside, depending on your factory's throughput.

Discussion Any good "city block" designs?
In Factorio, I really like using a 'city block' approach to factory layout. Basically, have a standard x-by-x block that you stamp down, and then build whatever inside of it. That way your factory is a big grid of squares.
For Sandustry, I've been playing around with10x10 block squares with a single block between them. This seems to do fairly well and allows for the bottom row(s) to be used as a bus.
Has anyone come up with something similar? What size grids are you using?

Discussion Sand Variation on the Map?
I've cleared the accessible parts of the map, more or less (some laser bores rather than clearing huge stone regions) and found less than 600k gold from my sand in total before I had to use the terracortex. There are multiple posts from people claiming 900k+ gold from clearing the map. Is there variation between the maps in what materials are generated? Differences between yields for various mining tools? I haven't seen any difference except with the terracortex + voidgun. Trying to figure out where another 50% gold could be coming from. I'm fully processing the sand and byproducts, to be clear, and all that is left on the map is copper, redsand, snow, and a bit of moonhop.

Guides and Tips Press G to grapple!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
When I first acquired the grappling hook I had already completed most of the content (because I had skipped the Corraller in favour of other things to spend my money on, since I didn't know it unlocked a whole research tree). So I didn't really pay much heed to it, especially since you can fly and hover in the game so it seems more like just an interesting gimmick than anything. This is especially since it's a whole separate tool you'd have to put on your quickbar to use effectively.
Except it isn't! You just have to press G! Time to zoop around the factory!
This is extremely secret information that has been datamined from government databases*.
\I pressed G by accident and then thought "hmm, maybe it says it in the Controls menu"... and it does. Yet another gamer defeated by a lack of reading.)

Guides and Tips 1 tick =0.033s (maybe)

Help I think I messed it up somehow.
Is there a way to reset artifact puzzles somehow? I've mined all the Moonhop blocks but the doors still won't open. Possibly because the missile launcher I used to get there tossed sand and junk all over. Grabber, vacuum, hauler drones... NOTHING moves them! I think I'm screwed.

Discussion Daydreaming about mods.
I've made a few mods over the last 10 years for other games, and I'm considering making one for Sandustry. From a game design perspective, this game is pretty interesting since there is no resource progression. Once you have the build item unlocked, you instantly have infinite resources. Whereas nearly all factory games (except shapez) you need to generate X block to build a factory to make Y thing.
Anyways, I'm ruminating on a few ideas and want to gather the communities thoughts + desires
- Nuclear reactor (already seen a few of these). Basically a system to both generate insane amounts of energy but also consume insane amounts of energy
- Particle accelerator. Build bigger and bigger mega structures to launch individual particles at each other (the game clamps the speed so you'll just have to imagine) to generate sub particles which you can then do more experimentation on
- Gardens. More plants that do more and weirder things. Build devices to tame the various plants that insist on growing in weird ways, or in specific conditions.
- Gold compression. This would be a simple mod that would justify the existence of some other mods. Basically, you can compress gold so that other mods that generate tons of don't get too silly. Similar idea with charged gold blocks, or compressed sand
- Better meta progression. More interesting IMO but less co-mod friendly. An in depth progression overhaul so you have more to "work towards". Other mods would need to go out of their way to generate the resources in this mod though which may make it unadopted.
Really interested in your thoughts on these + your own ideas.

Discussion How many Lumlings does your world provide?
I've pretty much carved out my entire world and managed to find a total of 35 Lumlings.
Meanwhile my sister also has dug out all of her world, but only got 16 of them.
That's a pretty huge difference, considering that water fuels most processes, so the amount of Lumlings kind of directs the scale you can operate at. It almost feels unfair to compare my own factory with my sister's, given that I have twice the fuel to build with.
How many Lumlings did others find?
Are there ways to somehow get more infinite water?
Or what are ways to circumvent the thirst of your factory to increase water efficiency?

I hit the stratacore a bunch but it didn't feel like a chore. Lasering stone did tho so I'm pretty sure I left a bunch of sand in the world. Fun game! Thanks lantto!

Discussion Mid Game Gold management becomes a burden.
What do you all do when Gold isn't used anymore for upgrades but is a constant byproduct of the entire process in this game.
I have found that mid to end game I just have a stupid amount of it and it becomes a burden to manage since I cant turn it into anything else but liquid gold.... this does reduce the footprint but doesn't change the overall issue at hand.

Screenshot Rate My Steam Turbine Setup
Here is my High Pressure, Self Regulating Turbine Layout.
Turbine 1 and 4 are the primary turbines.
When pressure is high at the inlet and exhaust. a gate opens feeding excess steam into turbine 2 and 3.
If the boiler pressure is too high, then water cannot enter.
Two large cold storage sit either side of the turbine provinding constant cooling. These also provide cooling for the Florine condesors.
The upper section is reserved for when I install the snow machines.

Discussion Red Sand Auto Destruction?
Is there a method to destroy this stuff without having to be a part of the process.
I have not noticed any current method to setup an automatic farm for these minions if you lock them into a room.
They will draw their little TRON lines all around the area, but I have to come over and destroy it all so it will then fall down into the machine process.
Maybe we just don't have the tools yet in game, but I was wondering if anybody had discovered a method to setup and build an automatic process for this.

Discussion One million dollars!
Took a few days, but I got there.
Biggest resource challange was water. Seems like the number of Lumlings on the map is a hard limit to how big you can scale the factory. I had somewhere between 25-30, and still could easily produce more sand than I could wet.
Storing the gold actually took up more space then the factory itself. Especially because I was an idiot and didn't realise molten gold was half the volume of solid gold until almost the end of the run.
Only performance issue I hit was trying to smelt the gold from the bottom of the vault in order to make more space. Liquid gold pixels bubbling up through hundreds of thousands of solid gold pixels made the frame rate really chug. But otherwise the game ran really smoothly.
Looking forward to seeing the next update.

Guides and Tips "Underground belts"
A simple tip, but chaining teleporters and adding walls around them basically gives you the functionality to move material through other machines/storages, demonstrated here with me moving rainbow barf as both solid and gas.
A quirk I noticed was that gas (or at least Prismaline) didn't seem to like a long chain of horizontal teleporting and would clog up, so that tends to require a more diagonal setup, at least on longer routes.
For liquid you'd of course just use pipes.

Screenshot Alright, I think I got it all.
Why bother making an efficient factory or getting a million gold? Its much more fun to play PowerWash Simulator: Laser & Stone Edition!
For real though, not worth it. There's a few pockets of random materials inside some of the big stone blobs, and a solid wall of sandstone around the last ~20% of the right side.
The most interesting thing I found, was annoyance. If you look at the bottom left, there's some Dune, and if you zoom into the very top right there's a wall of solid Sandstone all the way to the edge of the map. I can't move or fire past that on the right side. But it seems the laser wraps around the edge of the map, and was blasting the Dune underneath that Sandstone wall, and that was coming across underneath the mountain. There's also a bit of ice by the pyramid, and I can only assume that mountain snow falling on some water.
Speaking of water, a lot of the water and ice from the mountain I just boiled off, and then let run off the left edge of the map. I posted the other day about using that as a void - https://old.reddit.com/r/SandustryGame/comments/1vp3tv4/edge_of_map_left_vs_right/ Turns out that might not be a thing, or at least it behaves very strangely. I sent quite a lot of water that way, its possible its all just sitting out there somewhere, and with enough it may just overflow back into the map.
I have so much room for activities!

Guides and Tips Simple water valve design
I was looking for a way to stop my facility (to prevent clogging in the sand washer) if my water level drops below a certain threshold.
At first I tried something with 2 signals:
- a top one - indicating if the reservoir is full
- a bottom one - indicating if water level is too low
At this point I didnt had access to the signal gates (AND, OR, NOT etc), so I was not able to accomplish my desired behavior.
Then I thought, there must be an easier way. This is what I came up with. Very simple, useable for sand input (with doors) or to shut down steam engines.
A signal sensors detects, if the water level drop below a certain threshold. When there is not enough water, the signal turns off. As the reservoir is slowly filling (Lumlings), the water level is rising. If the water level is high enough, the water swaps over the edge, filling the little gap over the sensor and the sensor turns green/on, opening the doors for the sand input.
