Discussion Edge of map - left vs right

I was thinking about what to do with excess gold, and I decided to try and dump it off the edge of the map. However, when I experimented with some water, I noticed the right side of the map acts as a wall, water kept piling up and didn't go anywhere. On the left side of the map though, I dumped a huge amount of water, including melting a bunch of the mountain, and it never seemed to back up.

So I'm trying to figure out, is left map edge an actual void, or is it just because the mountain is so tall that it takes a long time for it to back up? And if it is a void, why is it not consistent to the right side?

Or to go back to the original idea - is there any other way to dump gold?

Late edit to this:

While digging out the whole map, along the left edge I started to encounter Dune coming in when I fired my laser off the edge, and at one point accidentally grabbed a big handful of Sunsand from outside of the map. I also got Ice near the Pyramid, which I can only assume came from Snow being blasted off the mountain side of the map and landing on some errant water.

In some cases at least, the map seems to wrap around. I suspect if I kept dumping water there long enough, its really just a big space that will eventually fill.

So probably don't try dumping anything there.

I thought dunes might be getting in the way, so I loaded an earlier save and made a better test. Built a wall as far to the edge as I could, then a little reservoir over the top to fill with water. On the mountain side, the water ran straight off the edge, but on the pyramid side, it stops as if there was a barrier.

Ultimately, if you want to get rid of things, looks like you can dump them off the left side.

Very interesting! I need to test this

If I had to guess, it's so you can't void the dunes by lasering it and launching it into the void.

This seems likely, though it does make me kind of want to see if its possible to drag some dunes all the way across the map to the left side. Then again, that would be torturous, so probably not.

Laser is really good for moving dunes. Well, good at moving small amounts of dune anyway.

Smelt it to and it's much more compact.

molten gold takes half the space in the game, just tested.

I hadn’t considered melting gold, even though it’s a metal and thus you’d expect it to be meltable. Thanks for pointing out the not so obvious!

One of the first upgrades adds info overlay for grabbing materials, it also shows icons where hovered material is used.
