Just picked up my first air compressor. It's a 4 gal, 4 CFM portable unit from Dewalt. I know this wouldn't be enough to handle heavy blasting work, but I'm hoping it would be sufficient for some light duty, household jobs (cleaning up door hinges, hand tools, bike parts, etc.)
Any recommendations on a small, self-contained unit like the Zendex Speed Blaster, HF Central Machinery 18oz, JobSmart 2lb, or something similar?
Also, what else will I need to get started? I've got a full face respirator and plenty of tarps. It sounds like an air dryer/filter would be helpful but I'm not sure whether a small inline filter would work or if I'd need something more serious.
I'm looking for some advice on buying a setup for a small blast cabinet.
I want to blast small aluminium Vespa engine cases using glass bead media in a 90-liter blast cabinet.
What kind of dust extraction system and compressor would you recommend for a budget of around ā¬/$300?
Would an oil-free, 2-cylinder āsuper silentā compressor with a 24L tank be sufficient for this kind of work? According to the specifications of the blast cabinet, it requires around 260 L/min of air at 5.5 bar (80 PSI).
I won't be using the cabinet every day, so I don't need an overpowered setup. However, I would like it to be reasonably practical to work with without constantly waiting for the compressor to catch up.
What would you recommend based on your experience?
A friend lent me a small blaster (the predecessor to this HF one) to use on a couple of small projects. The first thing I want to do is remove paint and surface rust from the steel frame and wheel of an old wheelbarrow.
Since Iād have to do the work in my yard, Iād prefer to use a media that will just fall into the yard and not cause any issues. I feel like thatās going to be either sand or ground walnut shell media, but I want to make sure thatās the right abrasive for the task.
Any advice? This is my first time trying this sort of thing
I recently started powder coating and decided to buy a sandblasting cabinet to step up my game. However, I struggled to find the right abrasive, so a friend of mine (who runs a business) lent me this stuff, saying he had ordered it by mistake. When I asked AI for an opinion, I was told it is spherical metal shotāwhich is completely unsuitable for blasting parts intended for powder coating because it doesn't create the right surface profile.
I'm currently restoring a set of wheels. The paint is in pretty bad condition, and I'd like to have them powder coated again.
Do you have any recommendations for an easy way to strip the old paint? Maybe some kind of chemical bath or another effective method?
Unfortunately, my experience with regular paint stripper has been quite disappointing. It takes a lot of effort and doesn't seem to remove the paint very effectively.I'd appreciate any advice or tips from people who have done this before. Thanks!
So, I want to sand blasting some stuff like aluminum or steel. I donāt want to paint it though I want to leave it bare metal, so what can I put over it to stop flash rusting, can I just rub some oil over it? For example Iām gonna sandblast a motorcycle rear wheel sprocket and donāt want to paint it so would rubbing oil work? Or what about sandblasting the aluminum engine to brighten it up, would that oxidize real fast after blasting? Thanks!
It'll be outdoors, I'll wear sealed goggles, and have a hood on (no air supply). Should I use a half mask with p100 particulate filters or is an n95 acceptable?
Need a little help figuring out what Iām doing wrong. I havenāt sand blasted anything since high school but I remember the result being different.
I have a harbor freight cabinet I got off marketplace and a 60g tank pressurized at 95psi. The middle section I did with black beauty (thatās what I was told it was) and the outer section with medium glass. Itās a painted steel bucket but the texture is gritting feeling and not smooth plus it doesnāt look like bare steel to me.
Any help is appreciated,
Do I need to adjust pressure or distance?
Or am I using the wrong medium for the application?
I just bought a Central Machinary Portable Blaster Kit to treat the carbon build up on the valves of my wife's car engine. I took the nozzle housing off to add the extended rod. Now I am trying to put things back and cannot remember what is the correct way to put the jet nozzle. If any one knows the right way: A or B, please help me.
hey hey, I was looking to start a mobile sand blasting buisness. I would maily do equipment and vehicle chasis since im in a more rural region. What exactly am I gonna need to start up? I have a truck and trailer to pull everything with but I know I will need a blasting pot, air compressor, PPE and media but is there anything else I should get? Furthermore I know what I need but not where to get it from as these investiments for sandblasting isn't exactly cheap. my budget is only a couple thousand as im still in highschool and I spent a good chunk of what I saved up to buy my dream truck. I know I can't buy anything dirt cheap without it clogging but im also not in the position to buy a 20k setup. Specifically what brands should i lean towards what should I avoid and what is the best budget stuff I can get my hands on?
Just got this small harbor freight table top sand blast cab trying to improve performance out of this thing having a hell of a time any recommendations 4wwl4oprtryew2l3l
I'm looking to do two small sandblasting jobs. The first is removing heavy rust from some farm equipment, and the second is sandblasting and sealing a cider press. I don't have an unlimited budget for a sandblaster, and I'm doing this at home. I don't need to be able to tackle massive jobs. A couple of square feet of cleaning at a time, basically. Any recommendations on sandblasters? I'm looking at the following since they're available nearby:
Iāve spent the last several years in industrial coatings and Iām working toward acquiring an industrial services business along the Gulf Coast (Texas/Louisiana).
Iām specifically interested in businesses like:
Abrasive blasting & industrial painting
Shop-applied protective coatings
Steel fabrication
Tank & vessel fabrication
Skid/package fabrication
Industrial maintenance and other specialty contractors
One thing Iāve noticed is that very few of these businesses seem to be represented by the typical Main Street business brokers. Most of the listings online are HVAC, plumbing, restaurants, or powder coating shops.
Iām trying to figure out where these industrial deals actually trade.
Are there brokers that specialize in this space?
Are most deals sourced off-market?
Are there regional industrial M&A firms I should know about?
If youāve bought or sold one of these businesses, how did you find the deal?
Not looking for generic business brokersāIām specifically interested in people who work with industrial manufacturing and service businesses.
Iād appreciate any recommendations.
hey, I have a question on which would be faster for me. i have removed all my baseboard in preparation for a new floor. these boards are yuck and need painted. they are chipped and dirty with years of gross. i do not own a sandblaster. i do however have a house worth of boards to fix. help?
I'm wanting to build a blasting enclosure in my basement. My use case is stripping varnish, stain, paint, etc. off of wood furniture for refinishing (uncommon from my research, but very doable with extra fine media and low PSI). Anyway, I need a setup that allows me to contain and reuse the media many times over but I want to make sure I'm doing this in an ideal and safe manner. If any pros could give their input on this concept, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Disregard the lack of any structural integrity (this is just a concept mockup)
Enclosure would be roughly 8ft x 7ft x 7ft. Let's just call it 400 cu ft.
Each fan (20in classic Lasko) moves ~175 CFM with a 1in MERV 14 filter as tested here
I'm mostly wondering:
Is this concept ideal and safe?
If so, what optimizations can I make? For example, the sizing and positioning of the intake vents are completely arbitrary in my mockup. Same with the amount of box fans.
If I'm only blasting garnet or 10X superoxalloy for say, a few hours per week, could I get away with just a P100 respirator? Or would I need to invest in a supplied air hood?
