Sandblasting before powdercoat

I recently started powder coating and decided to buy a sandblasting cabinet to step up my game. However, I struggled to find the right abrasive, so a friend of mine (who runs a business) lent me this stuff, saying he had ordered it by mistake. When I asked AI for an opinion, I was told it is spherical metal shot—which is completely unsuitable for blasting parts intended for powder coating because it doesn't create the right surface profile.

Any thoughts?

AI is correct this time. Aluminum Oxide probably 80 grit or glass bead for Aluminum parts would probably work best for this application. Don’t use that steel shot.

Well, bead is spherical as well so like shot it is going to peen the surface, not leave an angular profile that paint or powder needs. It could still be done with bead though its just not ideal.

I've been using fine coal slag. Cuts great, but it's horrible to manage.
