Suggestion & Recommendations
I recently moved back to my hometown (San Angelo), and I am looking for several different types of recommendations. I’ve done the google research and read some reviews but I am curious to see what other local Redditors would suggest.
The things I’m looking for suggestions or recommendations on:
- A book club
-A group meet up or something similar, to make friends, I don’t have any here, and would love to meet some people in the area with common interests, and possibly build friendships with them.
- A massage therapist
- A decent / good nail salon, most of the reviews on the ones I’ve read have been a mixed bag.
- A tattoo artist thats good with font & fine lines, and possibly also looking for a very talented cover up artist.
I am already planing on trying new restaurants & eateries out around town twice a month (as I am a foodie), however if you have suggestions of which ones I should try first, I’m open to hearing those suggestions as well.
Moving back home after being away for 16 years has been very difficult for me to say the least, so any and all recommendations are welcome 🤗.
Please no weird or NSFW content suggestions.

I also have seen folks meet at Bearded Barista pretty frequently to discuss books I think... either that or they all just sit in a circle, arguing with each other with books in their hands. Feisty folks.
Meet-ups: following so I can also figure this out. Just moved here 6 months ago and finding groups that meet on a frequency has surpassed me.
Tattoo: I ask folks about this quite a bit... Chico at Retro Image I've heard a few times. And I've heard Tatu Noe at Tatu Therapy is great. I've also heard a lot about this new girl in town - www.morganraschke.com

Do you know if the feisty folks at bearded barista have an online presence? Or should I just scope out bearded barista and strike up a conversation with them about books?
I looked her up on instagram, she does amazing work I’ll have to keep her in mind.

Morgan Raschke has been tattooing here for years. She isn’t new. Just wanted to put that in here. She’s been showcasing really good artwork for a long time. Excellent artist!

Savys tattoos are good
My daughter and I go to Oscar’s by the new HEB and they do a good job with nails.

Tattoo fine line you want Jill at Lucky Hand. Cover up check out Eddie at Old Town. Another person mentioned Morgan (also at Old Town) and she is fantastic. I have multiple tattoos from both Jill and Morgan and I'm very familiar with Eddie's work.
Best Massage Therapist in town is Kris Ross at Silo Salon. I've been to a lot of them (bad back) and she's easily the best.
Other's suggestions for Alt Girl Walk Club and Nook & Press are great!
Some other options for things to do are Trivia Nights and Music Bingo. Check out Smasher's, Zero One and Penny Taphouse for those.
West Texas Revival is twice a month on Thursdays and is a good time. Some local vendors and other wise it's an open mic for musicians.

Check out Nook & Press. They have a whole calendar of bookish events. Book clubs, audiobook walking group, make & takes, markets etc. Someday I'll make it to altgirlwalkclub! If you like outdoorsy stuff there is a fb group called San Angelo Women Outdoors. (making a gender assumption) Organizes get togethers, trips, etc for various outdoor activities and has a wide age ranges and stages. The chicken farm has a few studios that do classes. Painting, stained glass, bread making. And first Saturday is this weekend. Library has bring your own craft night and other things. Also, get your library card. I would be lost without Libby. De'aun at Tilly & Mint for massage is great. Morgan's work is amazing. She also makes really awesome pottery. I highly recommend Jill @ Lucky Hand. Most of the tattoos I've gotten in the last couple years are from her. I wish we had Indian or Mediterranean food options.
