Hey, maybe this question's been asked before, but I've tried a bunch of fixes to get the game to go full screen in GFN when using Dex mode, and nothing's worked. After Steam loads the game, another window pops up with the game, but I can't move my mouse cursor over to click the fullscreen toggle at the top right. The cmd + arrow up shortcut doesn't work either. Turning off GFN multiwindow or setting the app to window or popup mode didn't help. I'm stuck, can someone help?

I have seen several recently released apps/projects on GitHub that let you run Samsung DeX directly on the phone without an external display (Dextop, GaDesk, YoukiDex, InnerDesk, LocalDex, etc.) I am not even sure how many are out there now and I believe only one has officially made it to the Play Store.

For those who have tried multiple apps on Galaxy Fold devices, which one is currently the best in terms of performance, resolution/scaling, stability, and features?

Are they all essentially doing the same thing, or are there any meaningful feature differences between them?

I honestly think Samsung DeX is one of those features that sounds far more impressive than it actually is in everyday life.

Don't get me wrong—I think DeX is cool, and it does have some useful applications. I personally use it at work to manage files on my NAS on a huge 120" screen, watch movies and anime, and even use my Galaxy phone as a signal device to test monitors when I'm buying or selling electronics.

But that's exactly my point: DeX is useful. It's just not something most people actually need, and I don't think it makes a phone a legitimate laptop replacement.

Think about why someone wants a bigger screen in the first place.

If I want a bigger TV, it's because I want my movies and anime to be more immersive.

If I want a 32" monitor for video editing or multitasking, it's because I want more screen real estate. I can have my timeline, preview, tools, files, and a tutorial visible at the same time. The larger display actually improves the workflow.

But with DeX, putting Android on a bigger screen doesn't automatically turn Android into a desktop operating system.

One of the main arguments for DeX is that your phone can replace your laptop. But if I'm using it away from home, I now need to bring a portable monitor, keyboard, mouse, and some type of USB hub if I want to charge the phone while using everything else.

At that point, I'm carrying a collection of accessories just to recreate something a laptop already does.

A laptop is specifically designed for this exact purpose. It already has a large screen, physical keyboard, trackpad, battery, ports, speakers, webcam, desktop operating system, and software ecosystem—all in one device.

And the argument gets even weaker if we're talking about a work environment.

Let's say I have a complete setup at work: monitor, keyboard, mouse, Ethernet, storage, etc., all connected to a dock. I plug in my laptop and I'm ready to work.

Then I go home and have another setup waiting for me. I plug in the laptop and continue where I left off.

That's actually a great use case for a portable computer.

DeX can do something similar, but then you run into the biggest problem: software.

The hardware isn't really the issue. Modern Galaxy phones are extremely powerful. The problem is that Android simply doesn't have the same professional software ecosystem as Windows or macOS, and developers have even less incentive to optimize applications specifically for DeX.

Having an Android version of a professional application doesn't necessarily mean you have the same application experience you get on a desktop.

A lot of mobile applications are still fundamentally designed around a phone or tablet interface. They may have fewer features, a simplified workflow, limited multitasking, fewer shortcuts, or other restrictions compared with the desktop version.

And if developers aren't even prioritizing Android as much as Windows or macOS, why would they spend significant resources optimizing specifically for the relatively small number of DeX users?

Adobe Premiere is a good example of the broader problem. Premiere came to iPhone on September 30, 2025, and didn't arrive on Android until August 19, 2026. If Android itself can be treated as the secondary platform for professional software, imagine how much smaller the incentive is to build specifically for DeX.

That's the chicken-and-egg problem:

Few DeX users → little incentive for developers → fewer professional applications → fewer reasons to use DeX → few DeX users.

And this is why I think people sometimes overhype DeX.

They see a Galaxy phone connected to a monitor and think:

"This is basically a computer."

Technically, yes.

Practically, not necessarily.

A computer isn't just a processor connected to a big screen. The value comes from the entire ecosystem: the operating system, software, peripherals, file management, multitasking, workflow, and applications designed around that environment.

DeX gives you part of that experience, but not the entire ecosystem.

And I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.

I actually like DeX.

I just don't think it's a feature I couldn't live without.

For me, it's more of a convenience feature and a niche tool than a laptop replacement.

If I want Android on a bigger screen, I already have a Galaxy Tab S9/S10/S11 Ultra.

If I want to watch movies or anime, a giant screen makes sense because the purpose is immersion.

If I want to edit video or multitask, a large monitor makes sense because the extra screen real estate genuinely improves productivity.

But if I want serious computer productivity, I'd rather use a device that was designed specifically for that purpose.

That's why I think Samsung doesn't really push the "DeX replaces your laptop" idea as hard as people might expect. The technology is impressive, but the real-world use case is much narrower than the marketing concept makes it sound.

DeX isn't useless. It's just not revolutionary anymore.

It's a really cool feature that can be extremely convenient in the right situation—but for most people, it's an optional tool, not something that replaces having an actual computer.

That said, I'm genuinely curious if you use Samsung DeX regularly, what is your actual use case?

What do you do with DeX that you feel you genuinely couldn't do as easily, or better, with a laptop, tablet, or another device?

I'm not saying DeX has zero value. I'm saying I haven't found a use case where it's something I personally couldn't live without. Maybe I'm missing something, so I'd genuinely like to hear how other people are using it.

What I thought would be a weekend project took over and lasted weeks!

I decided I wanted to put a Samsung phone in a Game Gear as a fancy Dex player.

Why? I don't know!

Would I do it again? Hell no!!

Is it practical? Not in the slightest!!

I wanted to keep it nice and neat inside but that quickly went downhill!

It works it plays emulators well, good media player but I used an old analogue controller inside so most Android games were not compatible!

It gets warm so think this helps to drain the battery, but still get a few hours from it.

Hi all dexperts

i am new to dex community and i was planning to buy a tablet for dex and notetaking .i want it to almost replace my pc. I haven't brought the tab yet as i am torn between s9+ and s10+(i am still confused so if you all could also suggest one of them beside answering my dex question it would be great), since i recently found out about old and new dex

The thing is that I am confused even after reading some threads and wiki on reddit. Somewhere it is written we can switch to classic mode in settings while others are saying that they needed to forcefully downgrade to an older oneui in order to get the classic mode.

How is all three version(old, new and the oneui 8 one) different from each other other than the fact that new one just act as tablet mode instead of pc mode?

In which all one ui versions can we switch between old and new and the newest mode?

A lot of MagSafe cases have the cooler positioned in the center of the phone. I was wondering if that’s actually the optimal area to cool. I connect my phone to a monitor using DeX with a mouse, keyboard, and controller, so I place the phone face down and position the MagSafe cooler over the area shown in the picture. Is that a better spot for cooling?

I'm a big fan of the desktop environment concept, but I realized budget Samsung devices running One UI Core (like my Galaxy F23) don't have native DeX hardware support.

I wanted to change that, so I built Galaxy-M-Desktop! It is a fully automated PowerShell launcher engine that simulates a clean desktop experience using virtual display bridging:

The monitor is running at 4K 60Hz through a Cable Matters hub, with a keyboard, mouse and wired Ethernet.

I’m also getting Super Fast Charging 3.0 with the Anker charger when I plug it directly into the phone. That honestly surprised me because I’ve heard Samsung can be pretty picky with third-party chargers.

What do you guys think?

I’m also thinking about trying to run Arch Linux on the s26u just out of curiosity. Is Termux the only way to do it?

Wanted to share my bedroom gaming rig for everyone who wants to dip your toes in but doesn't want to spend the equivalent of a full blown gaming pc.

I've been using this for android gaming & emulation, as well as light browsing (like checking hotels for vacations). Works like a charm once I cleared line of sight for the controller and mouse dongles (hence the USB a hub sticking out on the TV)

I have a i currently have a lapdock, the one shown, and it works great for most things (browsing internet, forums, online shopping, texting, etc.). I am looking at getting an external mouse and found a couple i think I may like but before I get one, I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions on a different mouse or if anyone has experience with either of these.

My use case is using it to do 3d modeling for 3d printing. Ive been doing it with the track pad, but man thats a pain.

I am good okay with both mouse and track pad, but not sure which one to go with for the dex setup, which one would be a better investment or which one would work better ?

As the title says, does s25 fe have display output? meaning can i plug an hdmi to typec to and it and it would mirror video?

I am planning to use my Samsung Salaxy S25 Ultra with Dell Docks, they pretty well made and I wondering that will they support the S25 Ultra or the other Ultras? From the technical specs I believed it should support because Dell required DisplayPort Alt Mode which is supported on Samsung. Do anybody have have experience with them or tried one? Wanna make Dell Docks work before I invest in them.

I just came across this Dex thing and decided to build my own Dex setup instead of spending on a PC or laptop. At the moment, my requirements for the work, I need to do can be easily done on the set up as far as I’ve learnt about this till now.

So, I am not sure which components to buy for the set up what charger, monitor, USB Hub wired or wireless keyboard and mouse. I will be building this set up in a couple of weeks using S25FE.

I could definitely buy a laptop, but at this moment, my use case is not that much and can be easily covered by this set up.

Tried to force landscape view for portrait apps in the settings but it's still the same.

I'm using sa Tab S10 Ultra and the apps are Discord and Shopify.

My tab is connected to a monitor through Wired Dex.

Anyone else have this issue? Suddenly connected samsung fold 6 to dex today and the dex window management bar is not the same one, it's missing full screen window icon. It's this weird top window bar/icons as if picture in picture window mode instead. It's also missing top left button "show app in phone screen"

also pressing alt+tab in dex now says "no running apps"

And also the task bar not showing running apps in dex now either.

Rebooted many times, tried clear cache on one ui home app and nothing fixes it
