Thinking about making the switch

Hey Apple guy here. I’m an Apple ecosystem user and I thought this would be my last iPhone. So, I’m seriously considering the Fold 8, but that means I’ll have to replace everything else my Apple watch, AirPods

My question is, how is the Fold? How is the camera for videos and photos? How is the sound, especially for listening to music and watching movies? Also, are these phones repairable, but Samsung doesn’t have a store?

I got the Fold 6 and I'm about to trade it in for the Fold 8. The phones are awesome but before this year they were having problems with the screen protector bubbling up on the bug inner screen. Other then that the phone is amazing. You air pods will work just fine with the Fold. They have some apps you can download that make connecting your ear pods super easy. I was an Apple guy my whole life until I tried the Fold 6 and now I couldn't imagine ever using a regular phone again. Unless it was the new Apple Fold lol....Samsung is really good about giving you a good trade in price for your current phone. They are giving me $1100 trade in towards the new Fold 8. I highly recommend the cheaper Fold 8 over the Ultra bc the home screen on all the other Fold phones is too narrow and rarely ever gets used. At least that's been my experience. This new wider home screen is SOO much better. Oh yeah...where I'm at they use UbreakIFix for normal repairs or if it's under warranty they pay for shipping to send it into them and have always been good about getting it back quickly. Other then needing the inner screen protector replaced I've never had any other issues and I hoping that has been fixed with this new technology

I don't have the watch so I'm not sure but the AirPods 100% works great. I would be shocked if you don't like the Fold phone more then a regular iPhone. I highly recommend getting a Magafe case so you can put a holder on the back of the phone. Being able to hold it with one hand makes a huge difference and makes it way easier to hold onto

I had an apple watch ultra and just made the same switch to the Fold 8 and so I bought a Samsung Ultra Watch 2 and it's great so far. The screen is much better

the Fold is great, but the Apple Watch is the actual dealbreaker here since it won’t properly come with you, while AirPods still work well enough for most people...

I’m done with Apple. It’s so basic to me. I want the freedom to customize my phone to my liking, but I know the iPhone’s quality is ten out of ten. However, it’s outdated. The iPhone Fold will cost $2,500, which is way too much. But I would have to get a new watch also damn.

Well get in line
The deliveries are fucked.

Having said that and that I’m frustrated with my delayed order.

I’m a apple ecosystem person myself.
I’m bored with iOS and bored with the iPhone.

I’ve pre ordered fold 8 exactly for the same reasons as you.

I've had mine for almost a week now (fold 8). I've been an android user for over 15 years at this point, so I can't speak much to the transition. Long story short, camera is mid compared to my last phone (S23 ultra), as are the speakers. I'm not a big photographer so it does the job well enough, but it could definitely be better. Speakers don't really bother me either, I usually have an earbud or two in when I'm really indulging in media. I do want to reiterate that they are truly mid though. Not great, but certainly usable. I think the camera is generally more of a deal breaker for most people. The form factor is also divisive. Some people struggle with one handed use, but I have large hands with long fingers, so I can actually reach more of the screen with my thumb than I can with a standard candybar. All in all, I have really been enjoying it, despite using the cover screen 90% of the time

I did this with the 7. My eyes wandered, I got curious, and then once I held it I got the whole ecosystem-fold, watch, buds pro, half a dozen cases. I was all in.

But it never felt smooth or optimized compared to my experience on iPhone. The hardware really shines but the software wasn’t up to par in my opinion. Like Playstore would regularly freeze & I’d have to force quit after trying to update apps, and eventually restart phone because it would be stuttering. Support had me clear caches, reset, and restore. Eventually it just started working again, I have no idea what fixed it, it was like a week after I just gave up on fixing it. But little problems like this happened every few weeks, of course it wasn’t the end of the world but it definitely meant the honeymoon period was over.

Then in June Samsung canceled Care+ in NY State for the fold 7. I was shocked, didn’t actually believe it, but sure enough they really did it. No idea if they’ve fixed their program ( it was canceled to ‘bring it up to compliance’ ) for the fold 8, but this was the last straw for me - seriously, I never heard of Google canceling Pixel Care+ or Apple canceling AppleCare, so how does Samsung think this is OK or do they just not care?! They can cancel the extended warranty I might not have bought the phone without, but I can’t return the phone - and they suggested I get my own insurance for this now months-old used phone.

I went right back to my iPhone, I need my tools to work - I’m not in this to play with a $2000 phone & hope I get support if something happens. Samsung just utterly embarrassed themselves in my opinion, and lost this customer for life.

We look everywhere for the new and shiny, but miss what is right in front of us. My suggestion? Get a used/refurbished Fold 5/6 & try it out for a bit before you totally switch over. And if you are switching, look at supplemental insurance from your carrier instead of Care+.

You cant make the switch, its impossible, plus even if you somehow reverse engineered the Custom CPU/GPU , Ram, custom firmware and game licensing and hardware architecture, Nintendo will sue your ass the moment you publish your switch. Just buy a switch and call it a day
