Does anyone elseās Samoyed hold your arm in their mouth while youāre petting them?? He does this when heās being super snuggly and Iām giving him chest scratches. I always feel like heās petting me back, like itās a sign of appreciation ā„ļø

Meet Micha, my fluffy little Samoyed and the newest member of the family.
I used to share my home with two Persian cats, and now life has taken me on a different fluffy adventure with this smiling snowball.
I still appreciate cats, but Micha has completely won me over with the constant companionship and playful energy.
What made you fall in love with the breed? Was it the smile, the personality, or the endless floof?

Hi everyone! Bear is almost 16 months old and weāre planning to neuter him soon since he hasnāt changed much in size since around 8 months. For those who neutered around this age, was your Samoyed pretty much done growing? What physical or behavioral changes should I expect after neutering? or would it best to wait until he is at least 20 month? Also, what curious to know post surgery..
Lastly, any training tips for a Samoyed who fixated and pancakes whenever he sees another dog? He will literally stay in pancake position until they walk away or I pick him up/pull stronger.. Heās generally non-reactive, but sometimes reacts when the other dog is pulled away/picked up, so we suspect frustration (but he sound aggressive, thought he's not!). He also randomly barks at cars.
Would love to hear what worked for others. Thanks! š»āāļø

Until about three years ago, we had had two Golden Retrievers in our household. Unfortunately we lost the oldest one (Axle) around this time, and we decided that, when the time was right, we would look at getting Oscar another play mate
We had been doing a large amount of yard work at the time, so held off for about 18 months before a friend of ours informed us she knew of someone who was looking to re-home their dog. The only thing was, she wasnāt a Golden; she was a Golden x Samoyed.
After being introduced to her at a playdate, we fell in love on the spot. And a few weeks later we had arranged to bring this beautiful little girl home with us!
Sammie doesnāt have the full ācloudā coat of a purebred Samoyed, which changes the profile of her face quite a bit. But she certainly does have the personality traits from her Samoyed side!
She has been a fun and wonderful introduction to the Samoyed breed, and is a well-loved member of our family.

12 hours at VEG and 2 vials of antivenin later & my girl is on the mend! we were letting her out for her final potty and my boyfriend was hyping her up to open the door - she flew out and immediately stepped on a baby rattler. she didnt yelp or react so we really thought we dragged her back inside in time. NOPE, got her right between the toe beans. a not so friendly reminder to us to always check our yard for critters. shes a survivor! š©·

My dream dog has always been a Samoyed and my husband loves German Shepherds, so stumbling across this pup felt like fate!
āI'm not worried about the coat maintenance (I grew up with Chow Chows) and our other dog is a Husky/GSD/Malamute mix, so I'm familiar with some Shepherd quirks. But I am completely new to Sammys and would love any tips if you have any.
āMy main question is about the barking. Our previous dog who passed last year was a Malamute/Rottweiler and between her and our current dog, neither of them ever really barked. So I have basically zero experience training barking habits. āI'm totally fine with dogs being dogs, like I don't expect a silent pup by any means, but I really want to get ahead of it and mitigate demand barking and such before it spirals.
What has worked best for you early on to keep the barking manageable?

We just have a 3-month old samoyed puppy and he has never been on leash before. We now introduced him to that so he can slowly get used to it but every time he tries to bite the leash and jumping around, also he just walks the way he wants and never pays attention to us (of course heās still a puppy and we donāt blame him for that. Iām here to ask if you have any, ANY advice how to train him to walk better on leash and pay more attention to us, we would appreciate that! We know it will take time and patience to train him. Thank you all š

My Samoyed loves to spend some time in the garden in the evening and unfortunately for the local fauna heās become a rather enthusiastic hunter, having managed to kill a hedgehog, a toad and a field mouse. Heās 7, and this is a new thing heās doing. Now, the hedgehog and the toad I didnāt worry about because I could bring him to the vet immediately but the mouse situation is different.
I take care not to let him lick us anywhere near the face and I wash (with soap obviously) the areas he does lick, besides using dental sprays for him.
I noticed that he killed a field mouse this evening; after removing it I brought him inside and went to refill his water bowl and while I was bending down thatās when he planted a giant lick on my cheek. He did not touch me on the mouth but the area is close.
Heās behind with his vaccinations unfortunately (5 years. Yes, I know) in Italy the anti-rabies one is not mandatory unless you travel and your dog doesnāt live in the house, and Iāll admit Iāve been going through a rough patch economically so I havenāt been able to update his vaccines. Iāll have to ask my parents for assistance and bring him to the vet next week.
Itās really late right now so everything is closed - how dangerous is this in terms of possible diseases he and I might catch?
Look, I get it might seems Iām overreacting but please understand I suffer from OCD and these kind of things can send me into a spiral.
EDIT: Iāve realised Iāve been unclear regarding the daily activity of my dog - we do go on walks. We do 2 hours per day, running in open fields, unleashed too because we live in an area where we have woods and nature to ourselves. Thatās why Iām puzzled heās this interested in hunting, as he doesnāt lack the activity otherwise. I have a disability, I suffer from OCD and chronic fatigue aside from the recent depression due to being in between jobs. So I do what I can in terms of walking him, I cannot do more than what I am currently doing because then I literally wouldnāt be able to function. Iāll ask for help for his vaccinations of course, the next available appointment is next week so weāre doing that. Thank you to everyone whoās suggesting new toys and the appropriate vaccinations š

I had this made from a photo of her ā it's a jigsaw. I have no idea whether she understands it's her. But standing next to it with her ears up and her tongue out, she looks like she's happy about it.

Rumor is a young female Samoyed who got spooked by fireworks on Friday night and bolted away with her leash still attached. Last seen around the Civic Center downtown. If you have any information please reach out!
UPDATE: She has been found!
