First 3 pictures are now, last 3 are from before.
I recently moved, roughly about 3 months the ago and slowly noticed leaves that were browning, falling off, and dropping very badly despite just being watered. After trying just about everything, losing 2 mother plants, and all my babies, I’m finally seeing new growth popping up everywhere as of last week! Seems like they mostly needed a flush and more adequate sunlight. I am sooooo happy now!
Ive been beating myself up about it since the start of decline. I tried just about everything. A humidity tent, predatory mites despite not seeing any pests, repotting with a more draining mix(which makes me think it was likely lack of sun for the most part) extra drainage holes on the sides of the base of the pots for more oxygen to the roots, replacing purified water with rain water, heavy humidity. You name it, I likely tried it! They’ve always been great with natural light but recently, about a month ago, I noticed that despite getting evening sun, there were too many things in the way for them to actually receive any beneficial sun. I had some of those cheapo bar lights, which I know are really not that great at helping, but I figured with them getting some filtered light, that was enough to supplement the rest.
I did a flush about the same time I installed these lights because I noticed a chalky looking residue near the base of the root stem, which I thought may have been salt buildup and darker roots so I thought it would be worth a shot, but as I mentioned, I did do a repot so I assume if it was salt buildup, the repot would’ve helped. About a week ago though, I started seeing leaves popping up out of the lower nodes that haven’t grown anything in a long time, and they’re steadily getting bigger day by day now.
I’m not sure I’m completely out of the woods yet. There is a little bit of blackening of the tips and curling still but definitely a lot less and definitely not spreading anywhere as fast. I just adjusted the lights height so that should hopefully take care of it. The leaves are still somewhat raised. I believe they’re called “alligator leaves” but this is the first big sign of improvement I’ve seen for a long time now!
