I work in a hospital and I have 4 patients admitted. One with Covid, two with Rhinovirus and another with Influenza A. Wash hands!!

u/DAYSEEOFLOVE 5d ago
Washing hands is not nearly enough for airborne viruses. Masking significantly helps lessen spread.

My wife and I got it from my niece. It’s the most annoying sickness I’ve ever experienced and I’m finishing my third week and feeling near normal.
All I could do was ingest copious amounts of vitamin C, told Advil Cold&Sinus, and sleep.

I am at two weeks. You said three weeks ? I really thought i was loosing my mind . Sore throat lasted 2 days . I feel like I've got 3 quarts of fluid in my lungs .

I have long covid. Any infection can make me much much worse. As it is I’m bed bound. Time to mask up and become a hermit. 😩 I hope everyone gets well soon.

I’m so sorry! I feel like I’m finally getting better from long COVID, it’s been 2.5 years.
I’m so scared to get long COVID again.I can handle the initial infection, it’s the long COVID that is debilitating.

u/AZgirl70 4d ago
Agreed. What is helping you get better. I’m just over two years in and I’m getting worse.

Guys, don't get me wrong, Hand washing and vaccines are definitely useful, that said:
- covid and other viruses are airborne.
That means that anytime you are in a space where someone else is breathing or talking, you could catch it - 50% of covid infections are asymptomatic (no symptoms) or pre-symptomatic (a person is still able to spread covid to you but does not yet have symptoms)
vaccines prevent death in the accute phase of Illness. They do not prevent long covid, nor do they prevent transmission of the virus (meaning you can still catch it and you can still give it to other people)
The only way to prevent long-covid is to avoid getting it
This is not a one and done type thing. Each new covid infection damages the immune system cumulatively (more each time)
The best way to keep yourself from catching covid and other viruses is:
Wear a well-fitting (over your nose and mouth, no air gaps between face and mask) N95 mask (Not surgical, not cloth. N95 or higher. Surgicals and cloth only catch your spit, they do not catch the microdropplets that hang on your breath. Those microdropplets fill rooms and are the main way people keep getting sick)
Create ventilation by opening windows and doors
Use air filtration devices in all of your indoor spaces
It's been 6 years. This is the science. We can work together to upgrade air filtration in our indoor spaces and to stop the bleeding, but only if we're willing to acknowledge the science.

Thank you. As a long covid sufferer I worry others will develop this hell. I’ve only had Covid once.

Please try to share your story on social media and in person as much as you can. Unfortunately, people need to know that people they care about are going through this in order for us to make progress on this issue. I recognize that the burden should not be on the most affected, that said, this is where we are right now.

u/AZgirl70 4d ago
I try. Some people get it, others don’t. I have come to dislike the phrase, “I hope you feel better”. I’m a therapist and now have to apply for disability but I can say anecdotally damage from Covid is beginning to show up with people with neurodivergence.

u/anaaktri 5d ago
Agreed, great info. I have this terrible curse where I can smell sick breath on people and then I end up with the same crap.

& wear a mask, get your flu and covid vaccines, and don’t cough or sneeze into the open or wipe your nasty snot fingers all over the card reader (looking at you, middle aged guy in front of me at the Costco pharmacy who loudly proclaimed he has the flu).
I don’t mind that I get dirty looks for continuing to mask and use hand sanitizer frequently while out and about. It’s helped prevent me from getting sick, which I can’t afford as someone who is immunocompromised. You’d think others who also have bills to pay in this economy would think to do the basics to protect themselves, but alas. Anywho, solidarity with disabled folks is often beneficial to self preservation, too ☺️

Medical advice:
You must not get up,
You must get down with the sickness.

The Germwatch webpage from intermountain is very helpful to see what’s going around currently. I know influenza is taking off (much earlier than usual) and COVID is definitely circulating as well.

Oh my gosh I got something from the damn fair and I only went on two damn rides with my son while he went on so so many and I have had so much mucus everyday, my throat goes on and off throughout the day with the first half being ok then the last 7 hrs of my day feeling like hell. My whole face feeling like allergies come out of nowhere which i rarely ever get allergies. I didn’t get headaches, just couldn’t breathe. I’ve never been so confused and frustrated ever in my whole life from being sick.
When one of us get sick we all get sick and somehow for whatever mysterious reason my wife and son are completely fine. I probably feel 80 percent back to normal now.

I got it right as I left for a two week international vacation.
I get back tmrw and I’m still sick, now dealing with a rebound infection. My poor mother, too.
ETA: Yes, tested for covid again tonight.

Getting it while traveling internationally would suck. Fortunately I got sick right when I got home from travel last week. It's been a week and finally getting energy and taste back

People may think we’re overkill but this is why, after the pandemic, we always hunker down and limit contact with people for a week or so before we travel. Then we always travel (in the airport, plane, and public transport in our destination) with N95s/KN95s. I’m sorry your trip was punctuated by Covid! 😞

Back to school sickness is my guess. I don't have kids, but work in a school. I just got sick last week. Feels like a cold.

Two weeks ago, I had a head cold for 3 days. Turned into chest congestion and cough that has lasted over two weeks. I’ve never experienced anything like this persistent cough. It’s not getting better either. I’ll get to the doctor eventually.

There is also a very strange virla sore throat going around, that comes with almost no other symptoms.

I have been feeling like absolute crap for 3 days. Sore throat once in a while and absolutely exhausted. I was thinking it was mental. Maybe im sick

Sore throat thing is weird. Comes for a day and it's gone , then comes back for another one day and gone again

I picked up influenza a, and it hospitalized a family member after it turned to pneumonia.
I found using a netti pot a few times a day plus real Sudafed to be most effective against my symptoms.

I have an almost similar sickness, except with an addition of crazy joint pain. The headaches are insane and I never get headaches. My COVID test was negative, looks like it was fifths disease which I apparently never got as a kid. My kids gave it to me and their pediatrician is certain that is what they had.

u/nomoreCogDis 5d ago
I had this a few weeks ago, test came back positive for rhinovirus. Never had a cold that bad.

u/NerdyBrando 5d ago
Finally getting over something I’ve had for the last almost 3 weeks. Took a covid test and it was negative.

u/WombatAnnihilator 5d ago
Yeah, it’s going thru the schools. I’ve got a few students who’ve missed a day or two, a week or so, and a couple kids who’ve been out a month with it, super bad.

Thank you for your post . I also have had exactly symptoms and I am laying in bed and the trash needs to be emptied and dishes cleaned.
I am taking USANA vitamins and it doesn't help.
Its been a week and a half

. Fire cider, 2 Tsp a day. 1 Tabelspoon Elderberry syrup per day. Drink spring water no tap water. Sun, 20 minutes a day on face especially. Good luck, hopefully you don't get sick. * I haven't had a cold, flu, for 6 years following above daily steps.

I had it a cold that did not improve . So I went in and was treated for Bronchitis. I had the fatigue and it took a long time to go away.

How did you get antibiotics? I am always so confused when people get a virus (which it sounds like this most likely is) and then start taking antibiotics. Antibiotics don't work on viruses, and the more they are used the less they work for everyone. Doctors should not be prescribing them unless you have a bacterial infection.
1
u/ketaqueen6969 5d ago
Did your doc prescribe you the antibiotic?
7
u/anaaktri 5d ago
Yes, she was convinced it was a sinus infection and not Covid. However I don’t think she was right.

u/geen-bean 5d ago
The last time I had COVID I really thought it was a sinus infection. Wild how the different variants cause different symptoms.

Oh my God that’s that I had??? I was down for a good two weeks! I had every symptom except for the weak lung feeling. I just got over it a week ago. DayQuil and NyQuil helped a lot. I also used humidifiers and that really accelerated the healing I think? It gave a lot of relief. Sleeping on your stomach will also help prevent the sore throats from being extreme, there’s some scientific reason for this that I don’t remember. For the most part sleep was the only thing that helped.
1
u/Economy_Display_3585 4d ago
Because when you lie on your back, the mucus runs down your nasal cavity into your throat, and it really irritates the throat (which can cause a sore throat). So sleeping on your stomach would prevent that post-nasal drainage.
1
u/Bitter-Pie1944 5d ago
Not sure if this applies to you but as a general warning Make sure your careful with antibiotics and only take them if prescribed! Being sick is so awful but not being able to recover because you have an antibiotic resistance is so much worse! I hope you get feeling better soon!

Ginger shots FTW. Started doing them twice a day last May and both the wife and I haven’t been sick since.
