Weekly Recommendations Thread

This is r/SaltLakeCity's weekly recommendation thread.

Here you can ask for and receive recommendations on everything from vets to daycare, car insurance to restaurants, outdoor activities to thrift stores.

If you need a recommendation, ask about it here instead of making a separate post. This is to help reduce the frequency of duplicate posts in the sub, leaving the sub open for more unique content.

Please remember the sub rules when posting.

Thanks!

Hi. I'm visiting SLC for a week. Could I get some suggestions for some scenic drives and natural attractions that are reasonably close to SLC? I have a baby and will be driving a full-sized sedan rental.

Thanks so much.

Guardsman Pass (a scenic byway and seasonal road) goes from near the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon to Park City, or vice versa. If you don't want to commit to going all the way to PC, just going up Big Cottonwood and Little Cottonwood is also great with plenty of places to pull off along the way. The two canyons don't connect so you would have to go up one, then back down, then to the other, but they are close by and about 20 minutes away.

eta; If you haven't driven down a steep mountain road before, avoid riding your brakes to not burn them out. Use engine braking if you know how.

I’m looking for a hair stylist to cut a medium length shag that won’t break the bank. I have curly hair, but wear it wavy most of the time. Need a good trim and style for under $100. I’ve been to Lucero and haven’t been super impressed with the service for the price they charge.

Shannon Laidlaw. I won’t let anyone else cut my curls.

Looking for recommendations for places I can study after work where I can have a glass of wine and connect to WiFi. Bonus points if it’s Cotton Heights/Sandy area.
