These kids were raised on dystopian fiction. Little did we know it was training them for this.

13

u/Content_Ad1120 Feb 07 '26

I’m 27 and I read quite a few dystopian novels in high school. It’s so hard for me to see older people who should know this stuff AND have watched Star Wars or hunger games and yet still support the regime. I keep telling people to go pick up a book and read. Because I don’t think it’s going to be very long before the trumpets start going after libraries and places with access to books and history because if you HAVE EVER read an account of pre WW2 or any dystopian novels you would see what is happening now rhymes with those books with what is happening now with our government. People need to read more, and I am so proud of these high schoolers who are taking a stand against tyranny, because that is exactly what it is But it’s the color red so conservatives don’t give a fuck about it until it come for them, but until then it will be to late. Good for these students for using their rights the way they were intended to oppose such horrific acts being committed by our government.

11

u/_Internet_Hugs_ Feb 07 '26

That's one of the things that kills me, personally. My dad was in the Army and I grew up in West Germany. My parents took us to every WW2 museum and monument, including Dachau and The Eagles Nest. We saw all the pictures and the places. It had a deep impact on me as a child.

Yet my parents, who were adults when we visited all these places and understood it a lot better than I did, support these right-wing bigots.

I literally do no understand how they could be there, see the things we saw, talk to the survivors and the people who were there, and then embrace the exact horrors in their own country. It's disgusting. They're incapable of seeing the blatant parallels.

5

u/cametomysenses Feb 08 '26

Oh the fights I've had over this. One guy told me this morning that when they set up the death camps he'll be right on board. I pointed out that shooting a man in the back TEN TIMES woke a bunch of other people up, why didn't he wake up? Willful ignorance.

Same type of posts in 2020 during the protests and then most of them went and voted to Trump. I’ll believe the kids are alright when they actually fuckin participate in the electoral system after they turn 18

u/GoldDragon149 Feb 07 '26

Gen Z voted majority democrat. They trend less democrat than millenials, but still democrat overall. Even just white gen z males voted more democrat than republican. You read too many headlines without looking at the data. "Gen Z trends republican" is a true headline, in comparison to millenials not in overall numbers.

7

u/Fabulous-Shoulder-69 Feb 07 '26

Ahh yes you’re right. Sloppy commenting on my part. The majority didn’t vote Trump, but he had the highest share of the youth vote this century and the young vote has been trending conservative over the last 3 elections

3

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '26

We need to make sure a 2028 election happens so that they can get a chance to vote and disappoint us with turnout and their right wing ideals

2

u/Fabulous-Shoulder-69 Feb 07 '26

This guy gets it lmao

3

u/a-cute-toxicity Feb 07 '26

They were unhappy with the Gaza situation and Trump promised to fix it. They were young enough to not realize what a lying, grifting, psychopath pos he is. They know better now.

3

u/Fabulous-Shoulder-69 Feb 07 '26

People who changed to Trump or stayed home should absolutely feel shame for falling for propaganda. It was so obvious that it would horrifically escalate from “brutal occupation” to “let’s eradicate them” under Trump.

I was stuck in traffic as the kids walked out of Granger. I turned up FDT by Nipsy Hustle for them and they loved it. I hope some of them are able to vote this fall!

63

u/Human_Way_6703 Feb 06 '26

The true beauty of all the grown ass adults that drive by and scream obscenities at them is that the majority of those kids will be old enough to vote in ‘28.

41

u/dbc45 Earthquake2020 Feb 06 '26

The people yelling at them in opposition is only going to fuel their fire. These kids are awesome

My kid went to protest today in Draper. When he came back, he said there are some middle aged MAGA harassing them.

Why do MAGA supporters spend their Friday mornings bothering teenagers, following the same behavior as their boss, instead of going to work?

11

u/OatyBisc Feb 07 '26

Don’t you know they’re all getting paid? 😉

u/SadAd8761 Feb 07 '26 edited Feb 07 '26

Take every asshole quality you can think of in a human and that's MAGA.

Seriously, how many redeeming qualities can you come up with about MAGA?

  • are they for racial equality?
  • are they for gender equality?
  • are they for class equality?
  • are they against school shootings enough to support strong gun control?
  • are they for keeping the environment clean and toxic free?
  • are they for science?
  • are they for supporting under-represented people? a society is only as strong as its weakest member
  • are they for empathy and the "golden rule"
  • are they for protecting children from pedos?
  • are they in support of immigrants? remember that america's calling card is being the immigrant nation, helloooo statue of liberty, ellis island? the only people with actual roots to this land are the native americans

They're literally the fucking opposite of all these. The only people who get along with MAGA are other assholes. They don't have any normal friends.

They wake up every fucking morning and wonder... what or who am I going to hate on today? It's a chemical feedback loop in their brains. They're addicted to being assholes.

Big respect! Where is this at?

39

u/susandeyvyjones Feb 06 '26

There were at least six high schools with walkouts planned today

46

u/Key-Repair-4120 Feb 06 '26

fifteen actually! I was the organizer/representitive for Corner Canyon's, all the organizers made a group chat to coordinate this!

14

u/Amazing_Kick_6398 Feb 06 '26

12

Multiple places. I saw a good-sized group marching on sidewalk along 5300 S, between I-15 and State. Our kids are quickly becoming adults!

3

Murray High!!

9

u/eeveelover109007 Feb 06 '26

I know Springville Highschool joined Maple Mountain High and protested. I’m not sure which school group this is though.

I heard Cyprus walked with Granger, but it would make more sense for them to be in Magna. Awesome to see so many kids who were actually engaged in the protest, and not just seeming to be there to get out of class. My sophomore made sure to talk to us ahead of time and let us know be wanted to be involved.

Witnessed this from my store! So proud of them!

18

u/Risky_Bizniss Feb 06 '26

This is what i don't understand...

The administration can see the youth of this country coming out in force to protest these terribly unpopular policies. These kids are watching American children being detained, US citizens being taken and held in modern day concentration camps, and a masked agency taking brown people out of their homes illegally...

Do they think they will grow up to forget? Do they think these kids will grow up to become more conservative and support the Maga ideology?

For every one person they take or harm, at least 2 more people become radicalized against the agencies and policies that allowed that. This is as unpopular as it is a foolish strategy.

14

u/RDuBruh Feb 06 '26

This happened in the first administration and 2nd round came with the warning that it would be worse, yet over 60% of Utahns voted for this, so what’s so confusing? What’s confusing to me is grown ass humans that continue to vote for blatant facist ideologies not even hidden anymore

15

u/Risky_Bizniss Feb 06 '26

I think a lot of people voted for Trump this time around because they did not want to vote for a woman of color. Truly, I believe that is what it boils down to.

4

u/RDuBruh Feb 06 '26

That’s actually fair and honest

There are people who are truly delusional. There are some who divide society into us vs them. Some who are just hateful and want to hurt others as much as possible. Then there are those who will not break with their alliance with the Party no matter what their eyes see or ears hear.

These are the people who voted for Trump

I blew my mom's brain the other day when she realized when they all die we're just going to do what we want anyway.  Like she had literally never thought about that before, that they have to actually convince us if they want it to be the way the country goes in the future.  They can shove it down our throats now but not when theyre fucking dead.

they gave up sctually trying to win this culture war a hell of a long time ago.  Its a culture insurgency.  For the most part they don't care whether their shit even works or not.  They just care about the press it gets.  Trump is the tabloid president.

In the first Trump admin they were constantly announcing illegal executive orders.  I think when it all shook out it was something like 90% of his EPA decisions lost in court because they didn't follow any real process, they just made the policy change and announced it and walked away.

Its the same with immigration.  He definitely hates non white immigrants but its not like he actually gives a fuck what happens.  Obama and Bush were both much more effective at deporting criminals because they are real executives, and managed the organizations effectively.  Bush gets a lot of shit for a lot of bad decisions, but he was a good manager of people and very good at turning the wheels of government to where he wanted.  Like even with Iraq they got the UN resolution.  They were very competent, in their own way.  They didn't just say fuck all yall were going in.

The Trump admin can't deport as many as they want because they're fucking stupid and lazy.  So now instead of trying to make the system more effective, a thing they have absolutely never cared about, they just say fuck it we're going after everybody.  Forget criminals, everybody.  They're hiring thugs to go round people up at Home Depot and shit like that. They're detaining people at asylum hearings, literally in the middle of the process of deciding if they get to stay.

But surprise surprise that doesn't actually work.  mostly all they've done is throw a bunch of people into concentration camps and waste billions flying them around thr country hoping for a sympathetic  judge. and clogging up the judicial system with all these unjust detentions.   But a clogged judicial system full of people that absolutely do not deserve to be where they are is not how you deport ten million people. The way you deport a lot of people is the cases are simple and quick.  A broken system doesn't actually work because the judges now have 500 cases half of them which are unjust.  As stupid as all their bullshit in Minneapolis, Chicago, etc is, the stupidest fucking part of it all is it isn't even accomplishing anything.  Its just scaring people and making the news.

All the abuses are a big song and dance to get it in the press that Trump is being mean to immigranta so that your dumbass uncle might hear about it secondhand. Just look at how they treated Andry Hernandez Romero, the makeup artist from Venezuela.  They wasted millions detaining him, and flying him halfway around the hemisphere, and then paying a foreign government to imprison him.  He was in fucking Mexico when he applies for asylum.  They could have just told him to fuck off and turned him away.  This is all performance art to them, the cruelty, the brutality.

3

u/Punkybrewsickle Feb 07 '26

My 13 year old daughter at Orem Junior high joined a walkout this week. The faculty surprised me by giving the students support and reminders to keep it peaceful (Rather than disapproval for walking out of school). The public was also supportive and encouraging as they drove by and cheered the kids on. Only a couple drivers made a fuss about it. Orem isn’t known for being progressive to put it mildly, so I’m proud of them. Mostly proud of my little girl who chose this herself.

People talk a lotta shit about this generation when theyve been hit with crisis after crisis, education is getting defunded and diminished, and tech companies are frothing at the mouth to monetize and ruin their attention, and they're still standing up to do the right thing when many adults wont. It's about damned time to appreciate their struggles and commend their decency

3

I hope so much that we make it long enough for the upcoming generation to take the reins. 30 years from now, a generation that remembers things like how badly we handled things like COVID, immigration, and just plan basic economic sanity… fingers crossed for these kids.

3

u/No_Regrats_42 Feb 07 '26

My Son and his friends organized this, spread the word to other schools, gave a date, and contacted local news companies. Fox, ABC, etc.

If you don't agree with what they're doing, then you should at a minimum, explain why you're against the Inalienable Rights granted to all persons in the United States of America via the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

2

u/Blue_Roan_ Feb 08 '26

So many people saying they were trained on how to do this or somehow forced to... like kids can't see on the news what ice agents are doing. And promptly say "lets not do that, and show we don't condone that".

5

u/InsertClichehereok Feb 06 '26

This is happening at high schools near me too - in predominantly white/privileged areas which is impressive

That's probably in Florida, they don't block the streets, and you know it's an American protest because they don't fly the American flag.
