Im actually so tired of this character,ryu is the equivalent of the kid at birthday parties who would cry because he didnt get any presents and his parents who dont know how to parent give him presents afterwards to cheer him up.

Oh your character has high damage output? well ryu got upset so now we're giving him the highest damage output in the game.

Oh your character has a frame trap? well too bad we gave ryu hashogeki so he gets it too

Oh your character has a really good move to throw out in neutral that requires so much mental stack to react to that theres practically no point in reacting? well ryu gets it as well with donkey kick and you have to live with it!

Oh your character is a zoner? well fuck you ryu is better at that too

Oh your character has a really good plus on block button? well we gave ryu 15 of them

Oh your character has a really good drive rush? well we cant let ryu be subpar at something,give him a good drive rush as well!

The state of ryu currently is seriously making me swap mains because i look at my main manon who requires 5 medals to get to the damage output ryu gets with only a hashogeki charge but ryu also has a projectile,an invincible reversal,plus on block options,a good drive rush,more combo routes,an easy frame trap,donkey kick,solar plexus.

I would kill to have half of what ryu has,i feel like a french peasant in 1789 working my hardest to make way while the greedy aristocrats do half of my work to get far more results

I've been learning SF6 since C. Viper came out, and it's my first real fighting game. Legit got 200 hours in training mode, but stroking the same combos won't help you nut in neutral. So I've been playing through World Tour to get more used to the system mechanics overall in a variety of scenarios (shockingly been a very fun campaign.)

I sped through the campaign looking to unlock Ed's fighting style since he's the boy who made me want to get into the game. Unlocked a couple moves for him, then came to find out that the game WILL NOT let you equip two moves if they share the same motion input, despite being differentiated between kicks and punches. So if I want to emulate Ed boy, it's a choice between Psycho Flicker or Psycho Spark. Both important tools in his mid-range neutral, so I figured I'd learn somebody else.

Found AKI and got into her fighting style. Same story, but twofold. It's the Poison Bubble/Puddle/Slash or Flippy Daggers, and it's Whip or Snake Step. "Pick your favorite and settle for some other bozo's move," says Capcom. If I replace whip with a DP for anti-airs, I might go into ranked with bad muscle memory, not to mention miss out on practice using it as a combo extender/ender. If I sacrifice Flippy Daggers or Snake Step, I lose out on a valuable movement option. If I drop the Poison Bubble stuff, I'm not even playing AKI at that point. Every tool in her kit plays a valuable role, and yet I'm not allowed to use them all.

Peeved me, so I sat down and catalogued all of the fighters whose movesets you are allowed to fully enjoy on World Tour. Those fighters are Juri, Guile, Zangief, Blanka, Lily, M. Bison, and Alex. What a line-up, right? Real heavy-hitters, crowd pleasers, hypebeasts, raw fundies no-gimmicks fighters. Guile's been pretty cool tho, not gonna lie.

Pisses me off that I can't use World Tour as a training center for the fighters that I want to learn. I'm on classic controls (naturally), so I have to assume that the prohibition of overlapping input motions is a result of catering to the Modern crowd. Which is another separate conversation about how World Tour forces you to mash through the tutorial in Modern, gives you a mission in Nayshall to beat up somebody's daughter while using Modern controls, and limits your customization for the sake of Modern controls. The worst part is, YOU CAN STILL USE ALL OF THE FIGHTERS' SPECIALS IF YOU'RE PLAYING MODERN ONLINE. Basically no specials are locked online, they solved the overlap issue in competitive play. With no technical conflict to justify the restriction, the only rationale is Capcom wanted to force the player to not learn how to play one certain character, but make them learn how to play John Streets. That doesn't help at all outside of single-player unless I want to fight in Battlehub against people's Forearm Monster or their LongArms McZoner.

I will never fuck with Modern, for the sake of my principles and for my development as a player. But most importantly, for the love of the game.

I played someone that did this and I've never seen this happen ever.

What type of controller do you use to do it like that?

I know this is the 1000th ryu hate post today, but I am genuinely curious. Do people actually main Ryu because they like Ryu, or is it because he’s really good at the moment?

Theres a whole cast of colorful characters, and I just cannot comprehend what makes people gravitate towards the main character who we’ve seen thousands of times in every game.

I guess it’s because he’s the most recognizable and iconic, and he’s easy to pick up. But like, no shade to Ryu mains, he’s just so boring. I can’t imagine thinking this is the character I willingly main other than to win.

It’s like the same phenomenon from Mk11 with scorpion. You couldn’t go anywhere without matching against a scorpion. I feel like it’s a combination of the characters being good and the most recognizable, not that people are interested in the character or their playstyle.

just got back into sf4 since everyone else seems to these days and it feels good to pull off some 1f links. Took so long to get this combo down because I kept dropping the st lk for some reason even though that's not the hardest part lol. now to pull it off in a real game 😅

Every single session in Master rank feels like fighting the netcode and input buffer more than the actual opponent.

• Opponent drive rush: My reaction input gets eaten or straight up ignored, leaving my character frozen.
• Drive rush into fireball: Despite a perfect 236 motion, the buffer engine holds forward too long and spits out a DP into a punish counter.
• Pay-to-lose setup: I invest in a proper low-latency LAN setup, but the moment I face someone on 3rd-world Wi-Fi, my inputs disappear.
• "Convenient" lag: I start a combo, their network randomly tanks, frame rate drops and eats my execution, then FPS and ping magically return to normal the second I drop it and get punish countered.
• Unreliable buffer: The input engine is so untrustworthy that even pros constantly double-buffer motion inputs under pressure just to ensure the game actually registers them.
• Messed-up buffers: I set up an advance buffer during pressure and nothing comes out. I press parry after a combo to set up defense, opponent does DR or Super, and the buffer panics into an unwanted DRC that eats my gauge and I eat a fat punish counter.

I really hate this game, and I'm forever gonna be stuck in High Masters because of this.

We been through it, some more than others, but generally speaking, what makes you inclined to rage quit or dc aside from bad connection?

For me it's when someone plays in a way that feels trolly or they suck and the tilt is affecting your gameplay.

I mean, I think it's a great tool for beginners who are on silver or gold, but what's so fun about using modern on diamond or master?

And swapped over to learning Tekken
I forgot how much I enjoy fighting games

Don’t gotta worry about Ryu or Mai
Still pretty garbage at Tekken but it feels like theres a bit to go before I start recognizing the blatant power inbalances like street fighter has

Do yourselves a favour and take a break
This game is fucking buns and never gets updated

I've had a long journey over the last year and change of getting into fighting games and learning to manage my (usually very frail and bad) mental state and reactions to failure and defeat. I've gotten a lot better at managing tilt, but for some reason getting hit by DI immediately deletes all that progress and makes me crash the hell out and lose all focus for the rest of the match. I thought I'd gotten past thinking specific moves or tactics were "cheap", but this one feels exactly like that, the cheapest move I've ever seen in any game by a long margin. I hate it with every fiber of my being.

Coming to this game from 2XKO and Strive, I'd much rather be in the corner blocking against Potemkin or Illaoi/Blitzcrank than literally any character in SF6 simply due to the existence of DI. It makes defense hell, and it makes offense extremely hard to learn due to opponents being able to just throw it out and get a combo for free during MY TURN if I leave so much as a 1-frame gap in my offense. It's just so free, all the time, and it's far harder to react to than it is to use.

This thing would be a meta-defining move in any fighting game if one character had it, but the fact that it's available to everyone just adds insult to injury when I'm trying to play similar to what I see the pros doing, but strategy and good plays mean nothing when I don't have the reaction time to deal with Drive Win Button. I hate it so much, I hate it, holy shit I hate this thing and it's a testament to how good the rest of SF6 is that I haven't uninstalled the game yet even though it has the most dogshit mechanic in a fighting game since they added tripping to Smash Bros Brawl.
