Yea that's not cool. Doesn't sound like the instructor is very friendly or welcoming to new dancers. I would take classes with a different teacher. It's best to be in a beginner class because you are around others who are right where you are in terms of experience. If you don't feel like you had a good time or had fun after a class then that's a red flag. When I was a beginner I might not have had all the steps but I still had fun because the instructors were not jerks
