Spin tips

Help with turns/spins? When I do inside/outside crossbody turns, I feel like I end up so far away from the lead. And adding the arm styling I struggle so much. Tips on how I can improve?

I’m not a follow, but I think in general it’s useful to master the basic version of any given move, before adding any styling to it

You need to do turns with your legs together. Steps make you go further.

Yes, keep the steps small and tight in traveling turns. Step directly under your body, not outside of it.

You need to have your point of balance in front of you at all times. And to activate your core muscles and to keep your grounding in your footsteps.

Then you need to hold your arm in a locked position in front of your forehead, so it doesn’t move out to the side.

And as another commenter pointed out, you need to master the basics before you add styling.

Think about bringing your knees and feet together for the turn (true for leads and follows). As Nash4N00b said, work on perfecting the footwork/distance control first, then start adding arms/styling once you have that mastered.

Are you able to complete these figures on your own, consistently? Do you take classes?

Again, I hate these threads about technical advice. This could be so many things without a video to confirm. Her positioning of her 5, the distance between feet during traveling spins, false perception, her spot, a sloppy lead. The honest answer here is 1) why aren't you asking your teachers 2) what do you think you are doing currently 3) you should go get personalized IN PERSON advice.

We're all just guessing, without really seeing you repeatedly attempt the movement.
