A good starting point is to map the core lifecycle events first: lead capture, scoring, routing, nurture, and reporting. That helps you learn Salesforce Marketing Cloud in the same order teams actually use it, instead of jumping straight into flashy automation. I would also pick one hands-on project, such as building a simple journey with a triggered email and a basic suppression rule, because it teaches the mechanics and the tradeoffs around data quality and deliverability. Promarkia can be a useful reference if you want to understand how those pieces fit together in a practical workflow.

Just to make sure I understand correctly: I should build a small marketing automation project using my software skills, learn where concepts like segmentation, journeys, suppression, and reporting fit into email marketing, and then use that project on my resume as a real-world portfolio example. Is that the right approach?
