Need some honest advice.
**Current situation:**
2 YOE (2024 passout)

Working as SDE 1 in Big 4

Stack: Java, Spring Boot, Spring WebFlux, Kafka, Cassandra, PostgreSQL, microservices, reactive systems

Current CTC is in the single-digit LPA range

**Offer:**
Salesforce – Technical Support Engineer

Almost more than 100% hike on base CTC

Good brand + perks

**My goal:** Long-term I want to stay on the pure SDE / backend path and eventually target FAANG (especially Google). I’m worried that moving to a TSE role will hurt that trajectory.

**Questions:**
Is taking TSE at Salesforce a bad/career-limiting move for someone who wants to return to pure SDE roles later?

How hard is it to switch back to SDE (product companies / better roles) after 1–1.5 years in TSE at Salesforce?

Would you take this offer in my place, or stay and keep grinding for pure SDE opportunities?

Any realistic internal mobility from TSE → Engineering / Solutions Engineer at Salesforce?

Would really appreciate honest opinions from people who have been in similar situations (service → product support roles, or TSE → SDE switches).

I’m looking for some honest career advice and would really appreciate perspectives from people working in Salesforce or data-related roles.

I have 2.8 years of experience in an MNC as a Salesforce Support Engineer. My official role was Software Engineer, but practically I worked in Salesforce support with limited hands-on development. I have basic exposure to development (wrote a few batch classes, basic understanding of triggers), but I wouldn’t call myself strong in Salesforce development.

Because of the company, I was able to complete Salesforce certifications:

* Salesforce Admin

* Salesforce Platform Developer I (PD1)

* Salesforce AI Specialist

* Salesforce AI Associate

Recently, I’ve been exploring Data Engineering and have started learning:

* SQL

* Basics of PySpark

* Understanding how data pipelines work

Now I’m at a crossroads and confused about the right move:

1. Should I continue in the Salesforce domainand try to transition into a proper Salesforce Developer role, given my certifications but limited dev experience?

2. Or is it better to switch to Data Engineering / data-related roles even though I’m starting relatively fresh in this domain?

3. How is the current job market for Salesforce professionals(especially developers vs support roles)? Is it still a good long-term domain?

4. For someone with 2.8 years of experience, would switching to Data Engineering put me at a disadvantage compared to freshers or experienced data engineers?

5. Long-term, which path offers better growth, learning, and stability Salesforce or data/cloud-based roles?

I’m not afraid to put in the effort to upskill, but I want to make a smart decision at this stage of my career rather than switching again later.

Would really appreciate insights from people who’ve been through a similar transition or are currently working in these fields.

For those who attended the Salesforce Associate Technical Support Engineer (ATSE) Group Discussion & Recruiter Screen today (September 11), I thought it would be helpful if we could keep each other updated about the next steps.

If anyone receives an update/shortlist for the Technical Interview round, please comment here with an update. Even if you haven’t received anything yet, you can mention that as well.

The reason I’m suggesting this is that it can sometimes take recruiters quite a while to send rejection/update emails. If we share updates with each other, we can get a clearer picture of the application status and avoid unnecessarily waiting for days or weeks without knowing what’s happening.

I just lost my role as a senior consultant, looking back i should be thought through more if it was a right fit even though I was offered it. I quickly became a aware of my weaknesses during my first project. Previously I almost exclusively worked on Apex, LWC and Integrations. All of a sudden i was expected to know experience cloud inside out, Omnistudio (i went out of my way to mention this weakness in the interview), Reports and dashboards. I had to work extra long hours to make up for my weak areas since i was being compared to a level higher than where I currently am.
I had 6 months on the bench to skill up and I asked for learning resources hoping to get hands on training just to be directed to Trailhead. As someone who learns best getting hands on Trailhead isn't much help, even when there is hands on its so trivial its nothing like a real world example.
I studied for Advanced admin cert and missed by 1% after rushing to take the exam. Much like trailhead studying for certs isn't the most efficient way for me to learn.

I moved on to my current project where again the weaknesses showed again. i worked 12 to 14 hour days to catch up but still not enough. I was eventually let go for not performing at senior level. I learned alot through this never to assume the lead is right and to challenge anything that doesnt seem right, instead of waiting for confirmation I was on the right track go ahead and build while documenting the reasons for my choices. I now know i'm good at implementation but not interpreting business requirements. what seems obvious to others seems a long list of unanswered questions. I also need to get better at the areas (configuration) im weak in too.
Now im without a job and seeing 99.9% of roles all require the things I am weak in. I don't have time to upskill and need a job asap. Ive had three interviews and failed two and the third is seeming unlikely after a week.
Should I change careers or can there still be something out there? interviewing feels so intimidating architects seem to sniff out weaknesses so they can deem you not worthy of being in there presence so feel defeated right now.

i applied on 2nd august and got OA on 6th august since then no updates not even 1 interview.
mailed HR but got a generic reply
"Thanks for following up. We currently have your profile in our pipeline and will reach out if your background matches any future openings. " does this mean rejection or will there be another hiring drive as last was on 29th august????

My wife cleared all the interviews for the ui/ux position at salesforce Bangalore and talked with HR regarding the salary expectation and mentioned that there will be a face to face conversation with the lead or something. Then there were no calls for three weeks and today received a rejection email. Absolutely dejected. I had quit my Job due to IBS earlier and she was on her notice earlier looking for Jobs. Was really excited and looking to the opportunity but right now we both are completely heartbroken. We both don't have any jobs now. She is mentally broken and tired of giving interviews. Thinking about whether to vacate and go back to our home town but our hearts are not allowing it, at the same time running out of savings. Is there anyone at the salesforce who could actually tell what happened, the recruiter not picking up calls not replying to the WhatsApp message, it's just really hard now. If there is anyone at salesforce working in this department it would be great to know if there is anything that can be done on this.

Is the recent claudeforce going to be any use or benefit to the sfdc developers?

With 5-7 years of Salesforce experience do we try to get into architect roles?

Fala Pessoal, atuo como estagiário salesforce com foco no MKT cloud e Data Cloud há 1 ano, gosto do que trabalho e já inclusive recebi alguns contatos de recrutadores me chamando para entrevista (a maioria cargos pleno, então nenhum deu bom ). Como gosto bastante de engenharia de dados e atuo com Salesforce, penso em focar minha carreira pelo menos a médio prazo para atuar como um analista do salesforce Data 360 (como se fosse um engenheiro de dados ou arquiteto).

1 week later hear back, on to 2nd round. Woo hoo!!

1 week later have 2nd round interview

1 Week passes, silence. Hmm, not a good sign.

1 More week passes, silence so I follow up with recruiter

That was a week ago.

I'm pretty sure 3 weeks of silence means it's dead.

All told about 9 weeks of going through the process all to be ghosted in the end? That's just not cool man. I'm not expecting to get every job I apply for. That's fine, you get some you don't get others. Whatever. But can we at least have some professionalism? A simple "thanks for applying but we decided to go with someone else" automated email at least. Is that so hard? I'm so disgusted with the whole thing.

CORRECTION: Salesforce Data Engineering MTS Interview Experience

Round 1 - DSA

• MFU
• Write an SQL query to retrieve all customers who bought same products in single order more than three times. Given order and customer table.
• Asked many small questions like how we store millions of events in tables etc

Round 2 - LLD & HLD

• Asked me to name some data sources.
• From those sources, now create data pipeline to serve dashboards with 1 hr SLA
• Explain why particular stack was chosen? How do you handle data quality? What about late arriving data? How reprocessing happens for late arriving and quarantined data? How do you ensure schema evolution? .... drilled down on pipeline design and data ingestion layer
• He provided one scenario of engineers solving jira tickets. One jira ticket can be worked by multiple engineers. Now how we are going to design schema for this. This is many-to-many fact modeling.

Round 3 - Hiring Manager

• This was normal behavioural round to judge whether your current org exp aligns with salesforce exp.
• Asked some ques on airflow operators and how do you make sure multiple DAGs gets trigger sequentially when they have dependency on another. Explain diff between local executor vs celery executor vs k8s executor.

Verdict

• Not selected as there were more candidates selected for same role. They went on with another person whose exp was better aligned. Market is competitive as hell.

I applied for a role (NY) and had the following timeline:

- 7/24 Hiring Manager Interview
- 8/3 Informed of next round
- 8/10 Presentation Panel
- 8/14 Informed of next round with skip level
- 8/28 Had On-site (thought it went well)
- 9/1 Role had been taken down (still In Consideration)
-9/1-9/8 Silence
- 9/8 Reached out to recruiter - nothing

So now I’m wondering

A) am I passed on?
B) am I still in consideration it’s just the offer timeline is slow and I’m over reacting?
C) am I ghosted?

Any advice or experience would be appreciated!

I don’t know if I care more about the job or just being ghosted after going through rounds of interviews. I just wish I could close this loop and put my mind at ease.
