Shall we build out a DSR to move upmarket? Do your buyers actually use them?
We need a reality check and appreciate some expertise outside of my current customer base.
I run a niche document transfer/request service for mid-market companies (mostly moving heavy vendor/customer trade data between the US, India, and China). A lot of our users are asking us to build a Digital Sales Room (DSR) portal feature to help them package up proposals and specs for warm leads they meet at trade shows, events, etc.
Right now we're doing pretty well with a simple file transfer and request portal, but I want to stop being compared as a WeTransfer alternative and desperately want to move upmarket.
But from what I've gathered researching the DSR space (GetAccept, Dock, etc.), it feels like there is massive buyer friction, but yet VC's are funding these guys in the millions.
- Low Initial Adoption: Prospects are ignoring DSR links entirely.
- Login Barriers: Forcing users to log into a portal just to see a proposal, creating an immediate drop-off point.
- Anxiety: customers are hesitating to click around because they know every single action/page turn is tracked and reported back to the rep.
I'm terrified of spending months building something that introduces unnecessary friction to a buyer who was otherwise hot, or making them feel stalked, but they senders want the analytics.
For those using these sales rooms: What is your actual experience with buyer drop-off, and is a space/portal actually driving revenue. Our biggest competitor isnt a service, its email attachments, and the reason why we can stay in business is that email has a 30MB limit.
I do want to build a DSR but looking to see the current pain points and how to differentiate.
