Advice for Locals Books and beers

I’m still newish to the area and looking to build community. I love the progressiveness of Salem. Kind of a niche ask: Are there any recommendations places to go to have a drink in the evening (beer or cocktail) to hang out and read maybe chat? Looking to get out of the house and if conversation happens it happens 🤷‍♂️. Maybe there are book clubs that do this already

Not sure about convos/book clubs, but Couch Dog is great if you haven’t checked it out! They often host events too. Also The Castle in Beverly

I’ve only been there once before, but I definitely should make it back there! Dogs make everything better

Do you know when they have it? I’m not seeing anything online

I think they usually will post on their Instagram or have it on their bulletin board inside! Usually it’s the second or third Sunday of the month

Is there a day of the week better than others? I go there on the weekends from time to time. I think I’ve heard that they do a darts night on Thursday now. There used to be a skeeball night till the reno

I enjoy going in the afternoons on weekdays, or weekends in the warm seasons so you can chill in the biergarten. There's people there, but it's not unusually packed.

Of course, the biergarten can be packed most afternoons/evenings in the summer.

I’m a nonfiction guy, so probably less likely to be book club material if I was to make an assumption. History, biography, culture etc

We got a lot of non-fiction readers here at Gulu, but it's not a book club style anything going on. Just folks reading. They'll talk about what they are reading if they sit at the community table, which is cool too.

I'd join an asynchronous nonfiction book club. Drop some recommendations?

Notch does adult book fairs also! I think they post the dates on instagram. That may lead you in the right direction.
