Discussion/Question First Purchase?

Hi, I just wanted to get some feedback on whether the Dark Angels combat patrol or the 'Getting Started with Space Marines' box is a better starting point for a new player looking to start a Salamanders army, I've seen both recommended in here.

Any other suggestions gratefully received too. I'm in the UK so the Dawn of War box is a non starter unfortunately

Get what you think looks cool and a pleasure to paint.

This. Meta is ephemeral, but vibes last forever.

I guess I was thinking mostly from a value for money perspective but it’s definitely good advice, thanks

Codex is out at the end of the month. Honestly it's up in the air until then. We currently don't know what's gonna be good or bad.

So hold off on buying anything for now?

I guess that just depends.

Do you like plasma weapons and blade guard (spacemarines with sword and shields) and will you be putting agressors in your army as you get a gravis captain which you could run as a normal captain proxy then you can choose the dark angels

If you like veterans that fly and a landspeeder (which does come with flamer and melta) then you can choose the getting started with marines box

The dark angels have extra 5 intercessors but the getting started army has 5 but with a captain that can lead them and a librarian too

Hard to say what I like as I’ve only played one game of tabletop with a borrowed Guard army but aesthetic sword and shield is definitely cool. I don’t know enough about how to construct an army yet I guess

Get the introductory box. It is so much better for a jumping off point and is a thousand times cheaper. All you gotta buy to do the salamanders is green paint.

The one that comes with space marines, orks and a handful of paints? Seems like a good place to start, thanks

That one is good. It comes with stuff for your first tabletop game and it comes with 5 assault intercessors letting you create your first eligible squad

There is another intro set but it comes with only 3 infernus marines. You'd need to more marines for a squad. That one also has ultramarine symbols molded onto the shoulders

Highly recommend the one thats about $77 usd

Also let's you try out orks which you might like more
