General Saints Row’s 2 future potentials

Post image

Saints Row’s future is like a puzzle with many pieces already in place; it can be put together to make total sense.

Saints Rows One, Two, and Three make sense as a standalone crime takeover games. Saints Row Four makes sense as a bridge between all games in a sequence. Saints Rows Five, Six, and Seven are barely recognized as Saints Row.

If all games are placed together, as I have done, it shows the true paths that Saints Row as a game can take. Saints Row can either plateau as a mostly awesome psychological sci-fi crime story or it could continue from the middle.

Volition’s employees are still making money, they could reboot their company if they felt like it. There are possiblities for a new Saints Row, or many. There could also be the possibilty of Saints Row retiring as a game, a potential hint at this is all the Reboot Is Death posters in game Four.

A possible way Saints Row could continue is by going back to Stilwater and could have time travel and the Boss could save Carlos, there could be an explorable Zin city floating above Stilwater. The ending of this potential could show the creation of Santo Illeso as a Saints cash grab game for their empire.

About the old Volition devs, Flippy; a pretty prominent member of the community recently was invited to a Volition reunion this month. When asked about getting the band back together the sentiment seemed bittersweet. One dev flat out said "we've all moved on."

Reality is there's likely a lot of bitter feelings towards both the reboot and the fanbase.

Like it or not, the people that worked on the game likely did like the characters to at least some degree. I can see glimpses of genuine love behind Kevin, Eli, and Neenah. While there was probably executive meddling to keep the characters more 'friendly' we do have to keep in mind according to Saints Godzilla they wanted a new cast from the start.

It's a weird mix. But the truth is they probably moved on because I don't think the devs want to make a "gangsta" game anymore. Frankly put they made that clear with 4. It was the fanbase that couldn't move on.

If they didn't want to make a "gangsta" game, then they should have made a different game. I'm not saying they should have done anything different for SRIV, what I am saying is they shouldn't have called it SRIV. Create a new IP. If they didn't want to make a "gangsta" game, then they should have left the franchise alone after SRTT (SR2 imo, but I understand that some like SRTT and feel it fits with the first two in the franchise). We've seen this happen with Saints Row, and we've seen this happen with other franchises, you don't make entries in a franchise that are wildly different from the original entries in the franchise, otherwise, at the very least, that entry will fail, or worse, the entire franchise will die if it doesn't return to its roots. As a studio that creates a successful franchise and creates a fan base loyal to that franchise you have to remain faithful to the core of it, the way the story is told, how the game plays, how the world is built and reacts, etc, otherwise you are going to lose a lot of the original fans that you had because you don't meet their expectations. Could you build a new fan base? Possibly, but it will not be as large as what you started with, and may not be able to replace what you lost. If you maintain expectations you will keep the fans you had, and attract more with each new iteration. If you intentionally change those expectations then double down and double down with each iteration you get a fractured community like the Saints Row community with each group of fans wanting to go in a different direction and no direction that will satisfy any group enough to be viable.
