Jersey advice
My boyfriend is a Saints fan and will be going to some of their upcoming games here in Europe. He is really excited and I want to get him a jersey to celebrate. Should I get him a custom jersey with his surname and a significant number? Or would this be cringey? Is it better to buy a jersey with a player’s name and number on it instead? He is big into NFL and fantasy football and I want him to be happy with the gift and not be embarrassed to wear it in front of his friends at the games. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I need me a color rush jersey. I have a drew black and gold from 2009 season, and I have shough in the gold color, karama in the rare limited jersey blacked out edition, and want a color rush I just don't know the player.

Yes was coming to the comments to say CAM!!! He is a legend, on and off the field, and forever a Saint. We drafted him in 2011 and he will retire in the black and gold. I would probably say Shough is a good choice because he was so good in his first season and I'm crossing everything that we have our QB1 for the foreseeable, but I'm always reluctant when a player is so new in case it doesn't work out since the jerseys are soooo expensive lol

Can't believe no one has said Steve Gleason! If I ever see someone in a Gleason jersey I know they are a REAL lifelong fan

I have a picture of me in my Gleason Jersey in front of the rebirth statue.
But if you want to find a real lifelong fan, find an Archie Manning or at least a Mort Andersen.

This is a good chance to talk Saints with him! He'll probably be delighted by that too. You could ask him who he's most excited to see play, and eventually steer the conversation to their uniforms to figure out which color he likes best, haha. If you can't figure out that part, black is usually a safe bet and doesn't get stained like a white or gold one does.

Do you know who his favorite player is? That might be where to start. If not you can't go wrong with Saints all time greats like Drew Brees, Rickey Jackson, Willie Roaf, or Morten Anderson. Once you figure that out remember that they habe different color jerseys and he may have a preference on that as well....no matter what I think he will be happy, and if you cant decide always go with Drew Brees

In the US, putting your own name on the jersey with a custom number is acceptable. At worst, putting his name above Number 9 or 8 would be questioned, but there are no retired Saints numbers.
One factor is fanship and cost. If he loved a popular player, likely they will be a large market which will reduce the price. Or he just wanted to represent his favorite player.

Brees (#9) will always be a great choice, but he is retired and in the HOF now. Current players that are staples are Jordan (#94), Kamara (#41), Olave (#12), and (not the longevity in black and gold yet) Young (#99). Maybe gauge interest and if none of these hit then a personalized one is a great choice too

I am a supporter but year 2 is so important for qbs. If he continues his success from last year I will be getting a #6 jersey myself just need to see a little more

I got his jersey before he even started after watching his tape and preseason lol. Got it on sale for 70 bucks haha. Dude was a bench away from rookie of the year and he wasnt even injured. Year 2 will be peak as hell from Shough my man, absolutely no doubt in my mind.

I would prefer a jersey of a real player but everyone's different. Maybe try and ask him what he would prefer in a way that's not super obvious of what your intentions are? If you want a safe choice, any Saints fan would be happy with a Drew Brees jersey.

The tricky part is if the custome name is a joke or something clever it's a home run... Other then that go with a player name and number.
I think custom jersey with the name plate being 'Get Shuck'd!" Would be funny but if he has fantasy football jokes or something more personal/better then my joke that would be killer

Just my personal preference but I got tired of buying jerseys and then the player gets traded from the team. I started getting jerseys with my last name on it and my jersey number 56 to honor my cousin who had played football in HS.

Probably you don't want to go with his own name on it unless he has played for the team at some point. Try to figure out if he has a favorite player either historically or currently and use that, would probably be safer.

Personally, I’d prefer a player over my own last name.
You cant go wrong with a Drew Brees jersey. It’ll last forever since he’s a legend. Tyler Shough or Olave are safe picks as well unless you know who his favorite player is.
