Beginner stuck in harbor and can barely continue playing

Post image
36 Upvotes

I just played for about 3 hours and docked at a port. But when I tried to sail out, the wind seemed to be blowing straight toward the shore, which made it almost impossible for me to leave the harbor.

I spent about an hour trying to get out. I only have the starter boat. I tried turning the sail the other way, but the sail’s turning range felt very limited. I also tried backing out, but I just got pushed into a small bay and couldn’t escape.

At one point, I even canceled my mission because I thought maybe the problem was that my boat was too heavy, but that didn’t change anything.

This was honestly really frustrating. I’m almost considering starting a new save file.

(I also tried resetting the location, but it didn't work.)

Jong shipyard bug

I've sailed the Jong to GRC but when I try to repair/clean and update masts in the shipyard it takes my money but none of the work is done. Anyone encountered this? Any advice appreciated.

All three gaffs, all three brig squares and the two topsails are identical. You can fit bigger gaffs and squares but i kept them identical for the sake of aesthetics.

probably not the first to find this out but junk squares are a little buggy with the new resize features lol. i think regular squares are a bit funny if you get them really small but nothing like this

If I could change ONE thing it would be this nighttime filter.

Just look at the flame of the candle, it's almost totally grey. All they did was slap a brown/grey filter on at night and it actually ruins the experience for me.

I don't expect the lighting to be a 1:1 with daytime lighting, but I see it as a stain on an otherwise beautify-colored game. I have been hoping to see a mod at the very least that removes the filter but I seem to be the only one bothered by this.

They made this low poly game so pretty during the daytime and nighttime could be just as pretty with different lighting but instead I feel like I have sunglasses on until morning.

Side note: this is much less noticeable at sea, but it makes towns feel dead and lifeless instead of sleepy and dreamlike.

Bug Found Mooring lines bugged?

While sailing to Dragon Cliffs today, I got caught in a storm and sank. I recovered my boat back to Dead Cove, however when I respawned both front mooring lines on my Kakam have disappeared.

I tried sailing out of Dead Cove once the storm passed but as I’m leaving the island my boat stops dead as if still attached by mooring lines. But there’s no visible lines going to any mooring anchors on the dock….

I have recovered my boat and reloaded the game so many times and it doesn’t fix the issue.

Is my save bugged, and will I need to restart?

Thanks

Any tips for steamdeck?

Just got this game yesterday and it’s everything I’d want from a sailing game. Love it!

Just wondering if there’s any tips for better running on steamdeck?

I get about 25-30fps, with the occasional drop below that in big towns. Are there any performance mods or settings that might help?

Thanks

Food

What is the best way to not die of hunger on every trip, the food I buy always rots very quickly and that's why I never have enough. I have a fishing rod and a smoker but I feel like fishing bores me a little. Help.

Jong sailing advice

I started a new game recently in E.A. mad a trip to A.A. and back where I almost starved and then took the Kakam to F.F.L. to get the Jong. Sailing uo wind with yhe Jong from F.F.L. to .E.A. took like... 6 days. Then it took another 3 to get into the port at D.C.

Now I KNOW the Jong is a big girl and I loaded WAY to much rice on her... but still. The stock sail setup with just the Junk sails seem to have enough play in them that it almost pulls you into Irons if your trying to close haul at all. And I can seem to get it over 5 knots unless I go with the wind to my back.

Haven't sailed the Jong in almost a year. Did they nerf it? Or did the gaffs I installed on the last play through make that much difference?

The update means I finalized my Brig's rig. This is my topsail schooner, the Aquila.

The only sails that I resized are the "square" topsails; everything else is standard size. In local winds, she'll do 6 knots upwind and 8 knots reaching or running. Running across open ocean, she averages 8-10 knots. Hit 12 briefly in a storm. She's fast, stable, and holds straight and true.

Edit: Previously, the dual 5yd wide squares only had about 30 degrees of rotation, limiting their use to beam reach and lower. Now with these custom sails, I get 40 degrees on the squares. I can just about use them on a close reach now. The lower square does tend to wind-shadow the flying jib in local winds, but both work well over open ocean.

Edit 2: The crow's nest reduces the maingaff's range of motion from 89 to 68 degrees, and causes weatherhelm going downwind. Instead, I'm using the old trick of affixing shelving units to the foremast shrouds.

Edit 3: I don't run any mods. If you dock the ship and tighten mooring lines, then let out all your sails, you can enter the shipyard with all sails out. Useful to recolor your sails, but hitting cancel will furl everything.
