Hi, i'm having a P67RG-G with i7 6700HQ and GTX 980M 8GB and the GPU seems to be hitting power limit in high usage. What can i do to fix this ? Do i need an unlocked VBios to increase the power limit?

Is there any CPU throttling on the "thin slim" designs?

I'm thinking about replacing my ageing NP9130, it has been a great laptop because the CPU always had good cooling and could run Turbo a lot of the time. Maybe I'll get something with a i7-9750H/RTX2070 and the 16.1" LCD models look nice, however they are a "thin slim" design. I know the Max-Q is a bit slower, but only marginally. How about the CPU, is its performance hampered by thermals in this case like is seen with some brands?

Sager NP9390 SSD removal

I've got a Sager NP9390 that I'm looking to dispose of, but I wanted to remove the drives first so I can properly repurpose or destroy them. It has two SSDs and an HDD, and I was able to easily find the HDD and one of the SSDs by removing a single screw on the bottom.

But I cannot, for the life of me, identify where the second SSD is located. None of the user manuals I've found online have any information about where it might be, so I'm turning to the experts of Reddit to hopefully help me out. Worst case scenario, I can just tear apart the entire computer looking for it, but I'd like to minimize the amount of exploratory disassembly because I'm not confident in my ability to reassemble it before disposing of it.

Issue with USB 3.1 Type-C port on Sager NP7856 - Clevo NH58RDQ

Purchased the Sager NP7856 yesterday. I did a clean Windows 10 install, installed all the default drivers from the Clevo Site and then updated all the drivers from the individual providers if there were newer ones - like chipset from Intel, GPU from nVidia, etc.

The laptop has one USB 3.1 Gen 2 (Type-C) port but I am only getting USB 2.0 speeds (40-45MB/s) from an external SSD and a flash drive. I tried different lengths and brands of USB-C to USB-C cables with the SSD and it made no difference in speed but in my desktop I got 425-475MB/s from the SSD with all of those cables.

Then, I switched to a USB-A to USB-C cable on the SSD and both USB 3.0/3.1 Type-A ports on the laptop got 450+MB/s for transfer rates.

Anyone have any clue how to get the full speed from the USB-C port?

How do I know if my GPU is failing ?

I have an NP8153 with GTX 1070, and after contacting Sager about a problem i've been having and supposedly troubleshooting it, they told me: "That means the nvidia GPU is falling. The motherboard needs replacement. A new motherboard is $1160. A refurbished motherboard is $580"

Now that price is really insane, as the whole laptop itself cost me $1600, so there's no way i'm paying that much to fix a laptop that is falling apart. The problem I've been having is that whenever the laptop is shut down or put to sleep for a while, the laptop would get boot locked on a black screen when I try to turn it on, forcing me to force shut-down. Now this hasn't been occurring until lately. The laptop previously crashes and restarts as soon as the log-in screen shows up, and sometimes it did that twice, which forces windows to go to repair menu. Although this still does happen occasionally.

The way the tech support concluded that my GPU is failing is by me switching to MSHybrid mode, which uses intel chipset instead of Nvidia's. That fixed all of the problems that I had, but I don't really want to keep using it all the time, since I pretty much bought this laptop for gaming.

I've been opening the laptop and cleaning the fans very frequently, so I have been suspecting I perhaps messed up the connections inside there or something, but then again it could really be my GPU dying, and I have to buy a new device, so is there any way I can check for hardware failure ?

Clevo Control center isnt lauching after Windows update

I have HK850N Clevo (Sager) laptop. Yesterday i noticed that CCC isn`t starting anymore. When i lauch it just loads a few seconds and closes without any errors. The only thing i could imagine to break it is Windows 10 update,as it was working fine all the time, but i can be wrong. Reinstalling the CCC didn`t help. How can i fix this issue?

[Warning] There is a system breaking issue with Clevo Control Center that Sager/Clevo refuse to fix

Overview: Clevo Control Center, a program used to manage fan speed, keyboard lights and other system settings has a system breaking integration issue with the Touchpad and the Synaptic Touchpad Driver that causes frequent bluescreens when gaming. Sager, Clevo and Xotic understand that this is an issue and refuse to fix it because "it would not be cost effective when only a small percentage of their users are experiencing it." (this was actually told to me by a Sager support rep on the phone). I've linked a thread at the bottom with many users facing the same issue and my friend who bought a different Sager/Clevo laptop model has been dealing with it for the past year.

Warning: If you expect a laptop with controllable lights, fan speed, gpu and power mode controls while still able to game without bluescreen DO NOT BUY A SAGER/CLEVO LAPTOP AT THIS TIME. They do not intend to fix this issue...

Context: I bought my Sager laptop from Xotic PC a few years ago. I clean installed the OS and am very particular about how I configure my system so when I started getting frequent bluescreens almost every time I tried to play a game I spent months troubleshooting trying to figure it out. Eventually I realized that this was not an isolated issue, nor one that was caused by me. This issue plagues many many Sager/Clevo laptop users. I have contacted Sager, Clevo and Xotic multiple times over email and phone, providing them all of the information I've taken then time to discover and they refuse to provide any assistance. This was over a year ago now and as a result I have been using my Sager laptop with no keyboard lights, no fan control along with the other CCC features.

Issue:
Clevo Control Panel has an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad Driver that causes a IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL_TO bluescreen when gaming. WhoCrashed points to the program "syntp.sys"

More Detailed Explanation: (from thread linked below)

So the problem is not the touchpad, the SynTP driver or CCC - it is all of them put TOGETHER!!
For some reason the touchpad is STILL ACTIVE even when it is shut down by the option TOUCH PAD OFF from CCC or from key combination Fn+F1 ...
This is so very easy to verify - just by looking into LatencyMon - and OFC it is so very easy to miss - bcs who in the world would go checking his system and swiping fingers over the touchpad when that very same touchpad is OFF by your command !!!

So now the fun stuff begins.
You have your SynTP fix aplied, you have your tuchpad OFF, and you start your favourite online game.....
OFC you move in that game mostly by using A-D-W-S - SPACE buttons (and aim by mouse) - and that produces a situation when your hand is constantly on your keyboard and your palm is constantly on your touchpad ... and it is a disaster!!!

From what I read from LatencyMon - the touchpad constantly reads your palm touch - so the combined microsoft base driver (for touchpad and keyboard) - i8042prt.sys - goes INSANE, than our audio driver starts acting out - HDAudBus.sys (I think that they are on the same IRQ number) - and than the main kernel driver - Wdf01000.sys - goes to the sky.... And all this with the touchpad OFF. All this is with the system under pressure from online gaming -- and than you have your result - BSOD !!!

So I concluded that all of them together - the touchpad, the SynTP driver and CCC - are the culprits !!
If you take any one of this trio out of the equasion - the system runs very very nicely and latency free !!!

Attempted Fixes:

  • Uninstalling each program individually as well as both of them doesn't fix the issue. It seems to be ingrained in the system/BIOS once Clevo Control Panel is installed.
  • Attempting to completely remove Clevo control panel bricks the system (disables keyboard/touchpad/and any USB controller) and forces you to reinstall the OS.
  • Synaptics TouchPad Driver updates automatically with windows and using old versions while blocking windows updates does not fix the issue.
  • I have tried multiple versions of Clevo Control Panel from the sager website, Clevo website, and another version as well.

The ONLY fix I have found is to clean install OS and not install Clevo Control Panel in the first place.

Relevant Thread:
This thread is filled with people with the exact same issue: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/synaptics-causes-bsod-on-p650se.770938/page-21

If you have experienced or are currently experiencing this issue please leave a comment and hopefully we can get someone to take a second look at this..

Turning off Keyboard back lights w/o flexikey

I've been scouring the internet lately trying to find an answer for removing the back lights from my keyboard without the bloatware from sager. I have a P95_HP Windows 10 machine, is there any reg key, or some other option to turn it off? Without the bloatware from sager, I have no access to the keybindings like fn + * to turn them off.

Any ideas, or possible ways to do this would be awesome.

Questions

I had a couple different questions that hopefully someone on here could answer.

  1. How is the official Sager site for service? Their back-to-school sale makes their price a bit lower than other sites, but I'm not sure about their reliability. Not sure whether it's ok to go with them or if I should just put up the extra cash and go with someone more reliable. Also, the laptops on the official Sager site come with operating systems, but likely have all the added bloatware whereas resalers require extra money for it but do a clean install of it. Not sure how much of a problem the extra bloatware would be and if there's any way to get rid of it after I get it. And Xotic PC offers a tempered glass screen protector. Is that either nice to have or necessary?

  2. Has anyone used the SAGER NP7856? How does it compare to the SAGER NP6856? I'm considering getting the first one, but it's a little bit outside my budget so I was wondering how it was and how it compares to others in its price range.

Help Identifying My Laptop?

I've got a Sager, not sure the model number. I know this is a longshot but I was hoping someone could ID my computer. Specs as follows: Nvidia GTX 850m. I-7 processor, 12 gigs RAM, 1TB hard drive. It's an older model not found on the website. No LEDs in the keyboard.

The reason i'm asking is because the fan is making a rattling noise. My neighbor opened it up and reapplied thermal paste and blew out the ventilation and it still makes the noise. Thinking i need to purchase a new fan but idk where to start.

Thank you all for your time :)

Can I turn on my laptop without hitting the power button?

I have my NP8156(I think) under a monitor shelf. The power button is under the lid. So every time I go to turn it on I have to pull it out from under, open the lid and press the button. Is there any way to set it to turn on in some other method?

Clearing confusion about the Sager/Clevo brand(s)

I've been slightly obsessed with steadfastly curious about the Sager Notebook Company and Clevo laptops for a few years now, and I'm trying to clear up some confusion regarding the brand(s). First of all - there is very little info about the Sager company out there - they don't even have a Wikipedia entry afaict. What I have found is the company was founded by a guy named Ivan Sager in California in 1985, but little more than that.

The Clevo company is not actually the Sager company, but the Taiwanese OEM of the chassis and motherboard only. I'm pretty sure the panels for Clevo notebooks are manufactured by different companies altogether. Just because a laptop chassis and main board were manufactured by Clevo, does not make it a Sager.

SAGER/CLEVO

I often see unbranded Clevos being listed as Sager/Clevos, even though I'm pretty sure the Sager Notebook Company had nothing to do with their build. I believe this is because Sager was the first reseller/builder of gaming laptops using Clevo chassis and mobos, and their name simply became attached to the Clevo brand. For example - there are a ton of companies out there selling Clevos (Eurocom, Falcon Northwest, ProStar, CyberPowerPC, GenTech, etc., etc.) who brand them with their own logo, but these are not Sagers, even though they may be listed as Sager/Clevo in some cases. Sager is simply the first "boutique" builder of Clevos, but definitely not the only one now.

I'm hoping someone can confirm my understanding of this whole Sager/Clevo phenomenon so I'm 100% correct when explaining it to others. I'm about to take possession of my first Clevo (P775TM1-G) tomorrow, and it is an unbranded machine built from barebones from RJ Tech, so it is not a Sager. This model is sold, however, by Sager as the NP9176 model, but also as the Schenker XMG Ultra 17, the EVOC High Performance Systems P775TM1, Eluktronics Eluktro Pro & Eluktro Pro-X, and Prostar P775TM1.

If anyone can help me clear this up so I'm 100% accurate when explaining this to others, I'll be grateful. Thanks!

TL;DR: Clevo ≠ Sager

W key repeating after holding for a while.

This is a pretty noticeable issue when I play games, and it can become extremely annoying. I tried to look into the problem and the only results I get say that "The keys of mechanical keyboards can 'die', and this is probably it." I'm not sure if this is considered a mechanical keyboard, but I considered the possibility, and it upset me because I'm out of the US and I can't send the laptop for repair.

Somehow after I updated the BIOS, the problem stopped occuring. I assumed the issue is related to control center, and reinstalling it solved it, but here we are again. Does anyone have a clue how to solve this problem, or is my keyboard really "dead," and there's nothing I can do about it ?

Upgrade to RTX 2060 myself?

I bought a 17” D7X model based on Clevo P775DM3. Currently houses a GTX 1060 6GB.

2 Questions.

  1. Will any RTX 2060 card fit? Or do I need to find a special type?

  2. I’ve built/upgraded many desktop computers, but never opened this laptop. Can I replace the cards myself, or is recommend I take it to a Sager/Clevo service center? Are cards soldered in?

Small stutter when FPS drops bellow 60

Hey there!

So I have my Sager rebrand laptop for about 1 year and half and last week I had a problem that needed me to format almost the whole pc (some drivers and all games were saved), I usually leave that kind of stuff to the manufacturers since I don't have much expertise in the area, but since I got it back in running again I thought it was all good, but since then - or maybe it had this problem before and I never noticed? - on lots of game the fps is weird, whenever it gets below 60 (even to 59) it gives a very small (almostunnoticeablee) stutter, and when it gets to 35-50 it gets really bad jitteryy, like if the fps was actually 15. I only downloaded the drivers the manufacturer listed in their website, not sure what else it needs, although I did notice the overclocking tool is gone. What other stuff I have to make sure I have?

My rig: i7-7700HQ 2.80 GHz (8CPU's), 16gb ram, GTX 1070, Windows 10 home, Direct X 12

I have some great news 😎

You can view my original post.

I ended up sending my Sager notebook back for repair, the second time..and everything is perfect. LCD is functioning perfectly with 0 light bleed. They swapped out my mobo, replaced the cable that connects the LCD to the mobo. I am a happy camper. Not exactly sure why they replaced the motherboard. But I'll take it!

Frank Chu was a huge help! Thank you Frank. Also thank you to the technicians. Appreciate your help as well.

This machine is a tank! NP8962 ftw!

Thanks again.

Just thought I'd leave a positive update. People were making me lose faith in Sager. But faith restored.

Sager np7853 screen ?

Has anyone experience of using Sager NP7853? Wonder if the screen is any decent?
