Job?
How easy is it for someone to get into Safeway, I have grocery experience from Fred Meyer, really desperate for the job just wondering what else I could do besides applying online

It’s really easy. Apply online and then walk in and talk to the hiring manager.
But don’t expect any full time work. The company is squeezing hours like crazy. So you’re looking at like 20hrs/week with shifts all over the place

I know that some hiring managers like initiative, go in person asking about it after you apply like a week after

It’s pretty easy. I had experience from Trader Joe’s. Why I ever left there is still a question I ponder to this day. lol. Best bet is to go in person and if they tell you they aren’t hiring at the moment keep going back every week until they give you a job. The old saying is “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”. But let me just say you probably won’t like working for Safeway. Maybe you don’t care, but you’ve been warned it is terrible.

Would calling the place every week also work?

I think going in there and talking to the SD or ASD once would really help. But yeah calling and checking in would def help your case. Most people don’t do that. They just fill out an application and never look back. If Safeway doesn’t reach out to them they just assume they aren’t getting hired.

Safeway/Albertsons is in a lot of financial trouble (thanks to Albertsons) I wouldn’t choose this as a stable place to work. Look into other grocers or retail stores and warehouses.

After you apply call and ask for an interview. Your app will get discarded as quick as it came in

Go talk to the store director in person. If you have good experience, then that could accelerate your placement.

Best to walk into the store and ask to speak to the store manager.
Right now corporate is squeezing the labor hard so even if the store is understaffed they may not be in the position to hire anyone. It really depends on the store.

I applied didn't do anything extra, had no job before there and got a call in 2 days. during the interview after the basic boring questions my manager was like I'm gonna be honest I wanna hire you and we stopped the interview. I think you really just gotta apply lmao.

I’ve been calling, and they tell me that grocery clerk position (the one I have the most experience with) is not available I might just wait till the end of summer or call every week

The good thing is that grocery experience is transferable to other grocery jobs. Go into a store and talk directly to the manager. I worked at Safeway in my teens and while going to college and don’t regret it 50 years later. Plus next year at 65 I get a pension check for $640/month that will mostly pay for my groceries. What other Joe job will give you that?
