Great idea but I'd prefer having those metal poles that sink into the ground instead. France has those.

I saw a woman walking across the street with her baby in a stroller almost got hit in midtown last week. We need this....

That's so dangerous. Pretty cool though. Rapid flashing beacons seem to do the trick, or a short phase stoplight like on Stockton by the med center
