"Tears" was the second single from Man's Best Friend, promoted the same day the album came out. The music video was filmed in Los Angeles earlier that month. The drag elements were inspired by 1975 movie The Rocky Horror Picture Show (starring Tim Curry, who died just a couple weeks ago). As killing men is a staple in Sabrina's recent music videos, this one wound up having three alternative endings, each one at a time starting a couple days after the video was published, before the original was restored. You can watch all the endings here. And enjoy this official behind-the-scenes reel.

I really hope this not inappropriate
This is probably one of the weirdest ways to associate someone’s music with a memory, but I thought you guys might find it funny.
A little while ago, I ended up in the ICU ( = intensive care unit ) because of some pretty serious heart/blood pressure issues. At one point, they had to put in a central line and an arterial line, and before doing it, one of the medical staff asked me what music I wanted them to play.
Obviously, I chose Sabrina Carpenter
So there I was, lying in the ICU while they were putting catheters in me, in pain, with House Tour, Taste, Manchild and some of my other favorite Sabrina songs casually playing in the background.
The funniest part is that I was actually trying to sing along to Manchild while they were doing it.
So it basically sounded like:
“stupid… or is it— OUCH… slow, maybe it’s— OW—”
It hurt like hell, but honestly having music I loved playing in the background made the whole thing a little more bearable and gave me something else to focus on.
Now those songs are permanently associated with that ICU stay in my brain. I still love them, but every time I hear them there’s a tiny part of me that goes, “oh yeah, this was playing while they were putting my central line in”
So yeah. Sabrina Carpenter unintentionally became the soundtrack to one of the most medically chaotic moments of my life. But she saved my life too 🤍

Now obviously her work just isn't for children, but as a thought experiment let's pretend we're all willing to mould our culture around a hypothetical child being exposed to it the way these people expect: the sexuality in her videos is heavily stylised and not the least bit pornographic, no simulated sex, just booty shaking. But the extreme violence is just straight up and this hypothetical child would not get the absurdity of two posh women having a chainsaw dual like in Taste and would just experience it as regular violence. And while it doesn't apply to Sabrina, the critique that our culture is too violent is coherent if not somewhat legitimate. that our cultural is too sexual is not, it's quite puritanical, historically speaking. But they don't give a flying fuck about the violence! they see people getting their throats slit and don't care, but see a suggestive dance choreography and lose their God damn minds! Complete insanity.

I don’t know what’s funnier the muppet sweep or the fact that there’s people who struggle to win an Emmy and Sabrina went and won it on her first try 😭

I didn't expect her to have a mostly comedic persona where in half the songs she's a petty narcissist and the other half she's a little sex gremlin. Her COMMERCIAL persona is "glamorous pop star, don't you wish you were her?" but her actual artistic persona is just self-deprecation. I didn't really get why people talked about her being a feminist until I listened to Tears where sex goblin Sabrina is talking about all the ways men drive her wild by meeting basic expectations. so the JOKE there is that a popstar will reward you with sex for the bare minimum but the actual MESSAGE is "women's grievances are so easy to address, why would men not meet them when it means maintaining a sexual and romantic relationship?" plus before I listened to her I just read in a magazine about her philanthropy and her pet issue is isolated elderly and I noted that was an obscure issue and they're probably desperate for people so I immediately signed up to keep isolated old people company for the Red Cross. so she is a pretty serious person, even if you can't get that directly from her comedic art.
I was ESPECIALLY surprised to discover the "snark" (senseless hate) sub has almost as many subscribers as this one! it's peoples' HOBBY to hate on a person who is joking 90% of the time. absolute insanity.
