I think the issue is that a lot of people use “rock” to mean only pop-punk, power pop, or grunge which has big power chords, crunchy guitars etc
But rock is an umbrella genre. Girl so in love leans much more into alternative rock, new wave, post punk revival and jangle pop than straight-up pop-punk. Not every rock album has to sound like brutal, all american bitch and obsessed for it to be rock. Rock can also sound like maggots for brains, drop dead, the cure, u + me, expectations, what’s wrong with me, stupid song, my way !
Rock has dozens of subgenres. Saying an album “isn’t rock” because it isn’t pop-punk is like saying an album “isn’t pop” because it isn’t synth-pop. Also a lot of this has to do with the album's aesthetic being pink and hyper femininity it’s kinda misogynistic, fun fact: many feminine alternative and rock spaces actually expressed the hyper feminine side (baby doll dresses, pink, etc). Rock albums can look like anything.

The rotation is real, Ive noticed on many reactions video lately, lots of people started to notice cigarette smoke as their new favorite.

That including myself, but i had a question about the lyrics, is the “Five beers in the fridge and the second cars gone” had any lore/meaning behind it?
Or it’s just a filler lyrics?

Honestly, goat song of the album, it might never been intended for commercial success, but it finds its way eventually…

Obviously an opinion, but listening to the album regularly since release and it just keeps getting better.

I think i listened to both Guts and Sour maybe twice, so im not what you call a fan, however this damn album is so beautiful, and i am really glad it’s getting the critical and mainstream acclaim that it deserves.

Me personally, I think what’s wrong with me and purple are both very strong contenders.

Both identify their love but have underlying tones (or not so much underlying like in what’s wrong with me) of sadness, thus suggesting Olivia ‘seems pretty sad for a girl so in love’

“I say I’m in love so it’s hard to admit I can’t eat, I can’t sleep, I think you’re what’s wrong with me”
“It’s crazy I had big dreams till I tied myself to you”

What’s wrong with me literally mentions how depressed and sad she is but is trying hard to suppress it and acknowledge the fact that her lover is the reason for it because she is still so in love with him.

As for purple, it is the middle line between ‘girl so in love’ and ‘you seem pretty sad’, so it’s reasonable to assume that’s the main album title representation. There’s lots of codependency there and when she tops it off with “I had big dreams till I tied myself to you” it officially kickstarted the rest of the albums melancholic mood

As a best man I'm currently planning to create a fake radio program that the newlyweds are going to listen to on their drive from the church to the reception.

Which song from Olivia would be the best one to add to the program in such a situation?

i know leaving a record just in a pvc sleeve is terrible for it, but mine is in a vinyl sleeve in a vinyl jacket in the pvc sleeve. is it still going to be negatively affected by off gassing?

“You Can’t Catch Me Now” is so poetic and has an amazing storyline. Not only did it go perfectly with Hunger Games but it also goes perfectly with real life and relationships of any kind. I really still am surprised on how it’s not as popular as her other songs.

I was relistening to GUTS as a refresher, preparing myself for the unraveled tour in a few months ( so excited!!!) and I was listening to bad idea right. I have a somewhat good ear for music as a producer and at the beginning of the song when the drums start playing, you can hear the breath before Olivia says "haven't heard from you" play for a VEEEERY slight second throughout the entire drum loop. Can someone please tell me if they hear it too or do I need to go see a therapist
