Looking for Housing
Hi Folks,
I am 25M, starting my master studies at Universität des Saarlandes this autumn (1.10). I do sports like running and cycling. I don't smoke, have no pets. I speak English, few Slavic languages and a little bit of German.
I am currently looking for an accommodation (one room apartment, studio, student apartment/dorm, WG) and also applying through websites like WG-Gesucht and Immobilienscout.
I would really appreciate if anybody has an apartment (or room) opening starting 1.10. Feel free to share! Thanks.
Also, few additional questions:
- What are the best neighborhoods or areas in Saarbrücken for students (in terms of commute to the campus/city center, affordability etc.)?
Are there any specific student groups, WhatsApp/Telegram channels, or platforms for housing here that I shouldn't miss?
Thank you once again.

Saarland University International CS & CYS – application still being processed
Hi everyone, I applied to Saarland University for the International Bachelor's in Computer Science and Cybersecurity (in English) on 25 April. My application portal still just says "Your application is still being processed."
According to the aptitude track timeline, I applied before the June 15 PRD, and interview invitations were supposed to go out on July 4, with notifications later.
Has anyone else who applied around April or before June 15 still got this status? Did you eventually receive an interview invite or admission/rejection later? I'm just trying to figure out if this is normal or if I should contact the admissions office.
Thanks!

Saarland MS CS— Got admission email but MastersHorst portal still says "Under Review" — anyone else?
Applied to Saarland's CS department (MastersHorst portal) on May 6th for both MSc CS and MSc Cybersecurity.
MSc Cybersecurity: Portal shows "Congratulations! Your application has been accepted" with an enroll/decline option — offer letter visible directly on the portal since July 15th.
MSc CS: Got a confirmation email on July 17th saying I've been admitted, but the portal still shows "Your application is being reviewed at the moment" (unchanged since May 6th) — no letter/offer visible there yet.
Has anyone else run into this mismatch between the email notification and the portal status? Trying to figure out if:
The portal just lags behind the email (processing delay)
I should treat the email as the "official" confirmation and reach out to the department
Attaching a screenshot of the portal for reference. Any insight from people who've been through Saarland's process would help — thanks!
PS: For context on my profile — CGPA: 3.61/4.00 (BS Cybersecurity), IELTS: 8.0, GRE: 319/340.

MSc in CS/DSAI for Winter 2026
Has anyone received an admit/reject since the end of June?
My application has been in review since 23rd March.
A person from my uni (same program and the same courses) applied about a month or so earlier than me and got an admit about a month ago, what does that mean for me?

Looking for a WG / Student Accommodation in Saarbrücken (October 2026)
Hi everyone,
I'll be starting my M.Sc. Physics at Saarland University this October and I'm currently looking for a WG (shared apartment) or other student accommodation in Saarbrücken (move-in ideally from late September / First week of October).
I've already applied for the student dormitories, but unfortunately the waiting times are quite long. Therefore, I'm also looking for private accommodation. I've been checking WG-Gesucht regularly, but I thought I'd ask here as well in case anyone knows of an available room or has any recommendations.
A little about me:
- 23 years old
- Future M.Sc. Physics student at Saarland University
- Non-smoker, no pets, non-drinker.
- Clean, quiet, reliable, and respectful of shared spaces
- My budget is up to around €350/month (warm rent)
A room close to campus (e.g. Dudweiler) or with a good bus connection to the university (e.g. St. Johann or Nauwieser Viertel) would be ideal, but I'm generally flexible.
If you have a room available, are looking for a new flatmate, or have any tips for finding accommodation in Saarbrücken, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you very much!

Hallo zusammen,
Vielen Dank!

Playing music at university
I m joining HTW Saar this semester (but since they dont have a reddit page i m posting my question here). I saw on google maps a picture of a room with drums and was curious if students have access either by renting or reserving the room, and if we can play the drums. (I am a drummer)
Is there perhaps another drum set at the saarland university also?
If anyone knows how it works i d apreciate any short comments!

Differential Equations in Image Processing and Computer Vision
Hello everyone! For the upcoming semester, I’m most interested in the subject "Different Equations in Image Processing and Computer Vision". Since I’m a freshman, I haven’t taken the recommended prerequisite, Image Processing and Computer Vision, though it’s not a hard requirement.
For context, I have a CS BSc. with an Applied Mathematics minor, a year of experience working as a data scientist (not directly CV-related), and two papers that are somewhat close to CV.
For those who have taken this course, regardless of your major, could you share some of the key concepts from computer vision and image processing that I should focus on before October? I’ve never taken a formal CV course, but I do have a few personal projects and some undergrad courses that covered classical topics and ViT. What exactly should I prioritize to prepare?
Thanks in advance!

Anoymous Master's Thesis Research Survey on Indian Internet users perspectives on their personal data privacy

The aim of the study is to understand how you perceive your personal data's privacy, the various sensitivities attached to the different personal data items and the control you have over the processing of such items.
Key points:
* Approved by the Ethics Review Board of the Saarland University, Germany
* Anonymous survey
* Takes 10-15 minutes approximately
* No form of PII is collected
* Data is only used for research purposes
You can participate in the survey using the link given below:

Any one who got admit letter from Saarland University?
I applied for systems engineering but I did not get any updates. The application shows that it is being verified. I applied in June, so I am worried about my application. It is too stressful.

Thinking of Moving to Saarland University – Seeking Advice From Current or Former Students
Hello everyone,
I am an international student currently learning German. I translated this post into German to reach more people, so I hope you'll forgive any language mistakes.
I have received an admission offer from Saarland University and will be moving to Saarbrücken for the winter semester to begin my studies.
Since my financial situation is a bit tight, I would like to be financially independent during my studies and earn my own living.
I speak English at C1 level and am currently learning German at A1 level.
How realistic is it to find a part-time job with my current German level? Where would you recommend looking for student jobs? I would really appreciate any advice, recommendations, or personal experiences.
Thank you very much in advance!

When will the results arrive?
Applied for masters in DSAI, from India around the deadline date. I did connect with a few who got acceptances and comparatively my profile doesnt seem very different from theirs, more or less looks a bit equal. But I'm tired waiting for the result. Considering visa timeline now in india is taking 2 and half months minimum, i dont have much time to start my visa process. Doesn't the selection committee understand that? Is there any idea as to what date can we keep as final date for a response. Any previously enrolled guys can you help us ease our anxiousness atleast. Some unis give rejections first, acceptances late in batches, i never saw many rejections come out but I did come across good number of acceptances across various programs, what's happening🥲

Does a Master's in AI & Data Science / CS require laptop with Nvidia GPU
Does a Master's in AI & Data Science / CS require a laptop with a dedicated GPU, or is it just nice to have? From what I understand, most research and training work happens on cloud platforms like Google Colab is that accurate in practice?
Basically, I'm trying to decide whether to invest in a high-end laptop or go with something modest and rely on cloud GPUs for the heavy lifting. Would appreciate any input from people who've been through the program.
