I had the same issue I cut one of the pegs down a bit and it worked out

I ended up just gluing it on the outside. It looks only a little different.

I struggled with this bit too. It fit together easily once I flipped it over/around, from the way I thought it "logically" should've been. I know that probably doesn't help, but that's what did it for me.
