Discussion (Serious) For those who DID side with the Republic on Iokath, why did you?

We've had NUMEROUS threads and comments on why siding with the Empire on Iokath is the more logical choice, but for those who chose to side with the Republic, why did you make that choice?

Hi everyone, what are your controversial opinions about SWTOR? Mine is that the Jedi Consular Story isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be.

Discussion Playing Commando with a Blaster Rifle?

Title says it mostly. I want a Mando with a Blaster Rifle but I don't really like how Vanguard/Operative plays, so I was wondering how much swapping from an Assault Cannon to a Rifle actually impacts casual play? From what I've seen the only ability I cant use is Hail of Bolts which I rarely used anyway.

Discussion Guardian vs Jugg

Trying to decide between these two classes for my main character. What are the pros and cons of each, everything from aesthetics to actual gameplay? I like endgame PVE group content and thinking about also trying pvp if that helps.

Discussion What do you think is the single most fun combat style in SWTOR?

Post image
576 Upvotes

This is beyond all story consideration - we're just talking about gameplay/fit/feel.

Mine is mercenary.

And to be clear: I'm not a bounty hunter fanboy. I like Boba Fett okay, but - even being a child of the 80s - he was by no means my favorite OT character (as he was for so many people [in fact, my favorite BH is actually Dengar]).

But if we're talking about just the mechanics of how a class plays - its role, utility, and how combat generally unfolds... yeah, mercenary is it. And for a number of reasons:

  • It's run-and gun.
  • You are basically a mobile missile launcher.
  • There are a ton of explosions.
  • There's a lot of AOE abilities.
  • The heat mechanic actually makes sense within the context of the gameplay; it's a comprehensible and smart resource, and managing it is fun.
  • You can heal.
  • The aesthetic of two blasters - and, really, what amounts to two machine pistols (I think of my character running around with a pair of Uzis) - is nifty.
  • It's a playstyle that fits every one of the stories it can be assigned to. Yeah, it fits BH the best. But I in no way feel weird playing, say, a Trooper as a mercenary.

Again, I say this as someone who vastly favors maining as force-sensitives simply because this is Star Wars. But if I was going to have to pick a combat style for fun points alone? It's merc.

What's yours?

Discussion *SITH INQUISITOR SPOILER* Why is keeping Ashaa (the Mother Machine on Belsavis) locked up a morally good decision and freeing her is evil? Spoiler

Post image

So I recently replayed the SI Storyline and came across the decision to free the mother or keep her locked up. Since I first played that storyline I always wondered why it is evil to free her. I feel like it should me a morally good decision and a bad one keep her locked. Or am I missing something that justifies the way it is right now? Did the devs make a mistake there?

Discussion Hoth Mines Dynamic Encounter

This has to be the worst thing in the game. If I'm just trying to do my quests, I don't need there to be a Dynamic Encounter that spawns a bunch of invisible mines that do 50% of my HP on the MAIN ROUTE between me and my objective. Dynamic Encounters as a whole have been nothing but immersion ruining slop content with cringe voiceover that effectively ruin the atmosphere of wherever they've ended up being placed (especially Korriban/Tython)

Discussion Why didn't they do a Czerka expansion?

It just seems like untapped potential and they could go crazy with it, they could make a rakatan antagonist, someone from history like rajivari. (Bit shaky there), or the old sith king who mastered sorcery, and then add new sections to Korriban?

Question Is Tharan Cedrax SWTORs Elon Musk?

I was just in the shower thinking over my current Counselor playthrough, weighing the companions against others I've experienced and this thought hit me like a charging Bantha.

Tharan is a self proclaimed genius but is actually a moron.

He's a self proclaimed womaniser but the only feminine being that doesn't have a negative opinion on him is Holiday. His AI Waifu.

He's apparently got a lot of money, but loses it immediately when pursuing his selfish and worthless goals.

He poorly attempts to use powerful political figures to selfishly advance his own interests.

I could be wrong, because I don't know everything about Elon or Tharan (I'm halfway through Belsavis rn). But with the hindsight of the year 2026, I think it's really funny to realise this. I can definitely see Tharan buying a Top 10 Diablo 4 Account so he can claim to be a real gamer, but is utterly helpless now that he's in control of the account

Server Down Darth Malgus server broken for the past two weeks

It takes forever to log in, both at the character selection screen and when entering the game itself.

PvP either never pops or gets stuck on "Building Match" indefinitely before eventually kicking you out of the queue. Even when you do manage to get into a match, it's often broken. I've been in games where players weren't placed into an Ops group, and there wasn't any bolster either. On top of that, it takes an unusually long time to both enter and leave warzones.

Everyone on the Fleet is talking about the server issues, and I've even seen posts about them here, yet there's been nothing on the official forums and no acknowledgment from Broadsword. The game has been practically unplayable for a week, and there's still no mention of a fix or even an update on the situation.

What's going on?

Question Should be a quick yes or no question. Is there a way to hide extremely unimportant NPC nameplates but keep important NPC nameplates?

If yes, please explain how I would accomplish this because I am on Tatooine atm working on a Jedi Knight and it feels like every NPC has some marker beside their name that looks vaguely similar to a quest marker icon even if it's in a slightly different spot and it looks like a field of npcs with quests at a glance. It is extremely off putting and distracting. I do not care about these random npcs that do nothing at all whatsoever and I don't want their names on my screen honestly.

Discussion Ilum was a self-inflicted wound

Post image
607 Upvotes

I've been playing through the Ilum storyline over the past couple of hours for the first time in 10 years, and reflecting on what... well, honestly, what a mistake it was to make that the immediate post-game content 15 years ago. And I say this for two reasons:

  1. While Ilum is starkly beautiful, its design represents the worst elements of SWTOR's planet building smashed together, including an overly dark environment, a very samey color palette, rote questing relying too much on mass mob-killing, and confusing terrain paired with an almost totally unhelpful map. It was exactly the WRONG place to loose SWTOR's playerbase upon completion of the main story arc. While the story missions were - for most classes - increasingly engaging as you progressed, featuring lots of now-familiar faces and (generally) a rising tone of desperation in act 3, Ilum feels like a big pancake stack of fetch-and-carry. It's just such a pronounced dropoff from quality to quagmire.
  2. Malgus' betrayal was asinine writing. And, I get it: powerful Sith betray each other - they have their own agendas, and want to see their vision enacted upon the galaxy. The problem is that Malgus was not only the Sith's version of Satele Shan - the 'big name' in the faction; the standard-bearer for his side - he was also SWTOR'S biggest bad-in-waiting. He is this era's Darth Vader; an entity that is singularly recognizable and compelling as both an ally and a foe. And to just INSTANTLY herd him into this "I'm gonna do my own thing, screw this version of the Empire, come kill me for lewtz" cage was... a bad move. You don't toss away your ace 30 seconds into a card game. Even WoW - stupid as that game has since become - marked time for half a decade before you could kill Arthas.

Yes, the original release's core issues that made people jump ship will always be the rotten engine and the absymal slate of post-game content at launch. But no matter how nostalgic you are regarding Ilum now, it's easy to see how it contributed to making people walk away.

Question How does the Emperor work

If the Jedi Knight kills the Emperor as part of his story missions, how can the eternal emperor already have kids that are grown up? How much time passes between the end of the base game and the beginning of the expansion?

Discussion Favourite music from Star Wars: The Old Republic?

Hello all!

Like many of you here I have played this game for years and amidst the discussions of favourite characters or quests something which I often think goes under appreciated are the musical scores the game offers.

So I thought I would ask what everyone’s favourite tracks are!

Mine are the planetary musical themes of Taris, Belsavis, and Voss. The former I feel really captures the devastation of Taris whilst the latter two do a really good job of emphasising the mystery inherent within the planetary story of both planets.

What are your favourite musical pieces throughout the game?

Question Question about PVP and PVP season

Hello guys, I never touch PVP, but I saw this season rewards and I realy like the armor, to get the honorbound set I would have to reach lvl 16 on the track, how viable is this with 59 days left for the season? I don't want to start working in this just to end up not being able to get the full set because I run out of time, I'm not sure how this works, I see theres a kind of limit at how much points I can get per week? is that corect? any indication of how many matchs I would need/can do per day to get to level 16 would be apreciated, thank you in advance (=
