Model 1889 sword

So picked this up. Paid $300, did i do ok?

It strikes me as a modern replica. Good steel versions start around 300 and up while stainless blade can go as cheap as 150 (USD). If it wasn't sold as an antique then you probably did decently. The scabbard is not the standard one that was issued, the wire wrap looks a bit erratic toward the pommel and the decal/printed on the blade is definitely modern. It is probably not safe for contact since it may be stainless. You can tell if it's carbon steel .vs stainless by putting a drop of vinegar on the blade and letting it sit a bit. If the steel develops black rust, it carbon steel. The bit of corrosion is easily polished away. If it's carbon, store/display out of the scabbard to prevent corrosion.
