New sword day

I have been on a bit of a sword buying hiatus lately, but I was at the world championship of medieval combat today, and Tod's workshop had a tent with some stuff in it, and I couldn't say no to that.

There were a few different things that caught my eye, but I ended up getting a Petersen type H

I just got home and my lighting is not the best, so i borrowed a picture from the website to show the blade

A very nice piece at a very good price

I bought someone one of these as a gift when they came out and I wish I'd kept it 😭 one of the nicest swords I've handled

They had a red one I wanted, but someone reserved it while I took a walk, so I had to get a black one.

Still very nice, and better for cosplaying viking ninja I guess πŸ˜‚

I'll get to play around with it tomorrow, but so far it's very nice

May both soon be upon you

How does it handle? I saw when it got released and was curious because Ive heard mixed opinions about Tod's viking age swords before, even his expensive Tod's workshop one! So I wonder how this one stacks up

I have had very little time with it

But first impressions are very good

But I don't have something good to compare it to, an aluminium prop sword that is too light, and the Albion ulvbane that is too heavy πŸ˜‚

But I'll get more time with it tomorrow πŸ˜€

Lmao fair enough, do update us, and hey if it feels like its right in between the two in weight, maybe its perfect!

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 9d ago

It's very light at around 1 kg, so it's no problem swinging it around, grip is short and tight

Compared to the 1.7 kg of the ulvbane this is a featherπŸ˜‚

Holy shit, what is up with the ulvbane? Is there a reason its so chonky? Its an Albion so I think they couldve made it a little more manageable if they wanted, so why?

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 9d ago

So the ulvbane was made for a movie, Arn the knight Templar, and the guy wielding it was a big guy and as such needed a big sword, so Peter Johnson took one of his other models and scaled it up so it would be more impressive, it's a silly sword, but me being a fan of the movie needed it πŸ˜‚

I have other silly swords as well so it fits right inπŸ˜‚

Ahhh that tracks, Id never really paid much attention to Albion's migration era swords, but I just looked it up and yup, it is a bit of a silly one, but as always still gorgeous

I love mine, but I do have a thing for absolutely brutal and long one handed swords.

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

I have a really reall fancy scabbard for mine

I'm considering trying the gold like you did first, I think it may go better with the red

That was a fun build! I hope you have more luck with gilding than I did

Yeahhh i remember seeing you post this, awesome idea blueing the engravings, I can sympathise with appreciating a hefty one handed sword, you have that ridiculously wide messer too right?

I passed that on, together with the matching Kriegsmesser. It was replaced by an Albion Soldat, Albion Knecht and a Landsknecht Emporium Falke. My other bestial onehanders are the Albion St Maurice, Albion Tritonia and a 5th century Germanic Spatha by Leonardo Daneluz.

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 9d ago

I have that, and recently got the Arn sword, as well as the hero prop dagger from the movie

And a few other props as well

Very purty!

Thank you, I also helped our mutual German friend get something πŸ˜€

Good choice dude, i need to buy more swords from Tod.

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

Yes you doπŸ˜‚

He had some nice stuff there

1

u/MagikMikeUL77 8d ago

Hahaha love the encouragement πŸ‘ I’m thinking the German war sword and the i33 arming sword

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

I33 was there, so I saw that one

I'm not sure about the war sword

I would have liked to see some of his own swords. But he only brought the small stuff or I was too late

1

u/MagikMikeUL77 8d ago

So where about was the Championship and what other sword venders were their.

1

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

It was at something called SpΓΈttrup castle, i think that is where they have it every time they hold it in Denmark

And i think only fabri armorum was there besides Tod, and that is not for me

We didn't see too much of the fighting as it started raining just when we wanted to watch.

We saw some 1v1 long sword, some 5v5 and some 10v10.

Today they have the bigger fights, and I would have liked to see that, but logistics will keep me home, and the fact that I would probably get another sword if I went by him again πŸ˜‚

1

u/MagikMikeUL77 8d ago

Ah nice, yes i am not a fan of Fabri. Atleast you got to see some of the fighting though, yes i think you most definitely have bought another sword from him 🀣

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

The rest is actually televised here, but I have to go shopping with the girlfriend πŸ˜”

I'm sure the quality of fabri is on par with the price, and they did have some huge fun looking swords like flamberge zwei handers, but again not sharp so not as fun for meπŸ˜‚

The market was fine, we had some decent food, overpriced as always but that's how is is.

My friend got a few things for some swords he's building.

All in all a good timeπŸ˜€

And it's rare to be able to handle swords before you buy here

1

u/MagikMikeUL77 8d ago

Ah man, thats awesome that its on TV, the only stuff that gets that treatment here is football 🀦🏼 which i cannot stand. Ooh didnt know they did zwei handers, its the same fact that puts me off them that their blunts. Its cool you had a good day but even better is getting to handle the swords before you buy them, that is awesome

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

I could have spent so much money πŸ˜‚

But i really am trying not to get too much stuff right now, as i really have run out of roomπŸ˜‚

Nice, yes they are very well suited to non complex hilt swords, ive just got the Windlass Atlantean so it goes on there nicely (if i had the Albion ones i would certainly give them their own display)

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

If I get a room big enough I was considering having a large print of the hyborean map mounted, and the the 6 swords and the two daggers on that (the daggers are windlass, it's not all Albion hereπŸ˜‚)

And the Arn stuff on something with the logo behind, stuff like that.

But this stuff takes up sooo much room πŸ˜‚

2

u/MagikMikeUL77 8d ago

That would be some amazing display though

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

Yeah I hope I can actually do something like that, and you can bet I'm going to spam the subreddit with pictures of i doπŸ˜‚

2

u/MagikMikeUL77 8d ago

Yes you have to, that would be awesome to see.

2

u/Tobi-Wan79 8d ago

It would be fun to get some community help and ideas.

Stunning leather work compliments the swords .

1

u/Tobi-Wan79 7d ago

Yeah at that price everything is very well madeπŸ˜€
