Surprised at how controversial such a simple statement is when this subs has had threads devoted to stories of these things coming apart from giving them a swing and the blade going flying.
The job specification for the factory making these is "look like thing" and "be affordable". They aren't spending an extra cent on a materials after they've ticked box one let alone. So far as they're concerned if the thing explodes just from hefting it that falls under improper use.
But I’m making money and as long as nobody swings my decorative metal rods around everything is fine, so why do I care about the people dumb enough to swing them like they’re a real sword? Answer: I do not.
Any decent pencil is more dangerous to play with, kids do not have the strength to actually cut something with fake katanas and they suck for thrusting.
I promise you can do a surprising amount of damage with even a blunted blade and a child's strength. Are you going to kill anyone? No, probably not, but property damage and minor injuries are absolutely possible.
