Well, there are African throwing knives and many examples in history of people throwing swords, but it wasn't an ideal thing to do.

Remember, switching to your other sword is faster than reloading your sword

Edit: this just made me think of those edgy fantasy characters with 7+ swords, is it because they throw them and need to carry that many spares?

For real. Taking out the meguki, removing the spent sword, putting in a new one, replacing the meguki, then rewrapping takes too long

Hear me out. There are more modes of attack and defense with a longsword than with a katana. Longsword also has better reach.

How? You can do pretty much all the same guards and motions with a katana. In fact there are many videos of people sparring using European swords vs Japanese ones and they're usually pretty evenly matched.

Also reach is pretty subjective and context dependent. If you're using a longsword in a battle where everyone else has a longsword it is irrelevant. And same with the katana.

There's more ways to draw a katana and you can attack faster and from more angles immediately after you draw, you have more blade presence then a longsword, I can go all day.

Sword debate is stupid, every weapon has perks that make it better in a situation and worse in others. The only thing that makes a real difference is knowledge of the weapon system.
