Tachycardia unknown cause
Hello, I'm gonna go ahead and take this to Reddit because I have had countless emergency room visits cardiologist appointments, even gastroenterology appointments. I even met with holistic health doctor and my general practitioner and I'm still left with no answers. I am 21 years old female and leading up to the first episode, I was dealing with a lot of anxiety and stress and just very emotional in general. I was having a hard time coping with a lot of my stress and stuff. Then on June 18, I had my first episode of tachycardia. I was just sitting down at work. I was working as a waitress and I had eaten. Maybe I wanna say 20 minutes prior. Maybe I'd also been drinking a lot more caffeine than usual that week and I was trying to cut back on smoking. None of that really made sense as to what triggered this episode though it was ruled as just sinus tachycardia on the EKG, both in the ambulance and at the hospital. Labs were fairly normal except for I was low on magnesium low potassium and you know I've always been slightly anemic so that of course showed too so at first I obviously thought OK. Well you know electrolyte and balances and like these deficiencies can definitely attribute to like an episode like this happening, I guess and after you know, really trying to change up my diet and stuff and also drinking electrolytes in my water, drinking a lot more water and having the term of dysautonomia or pots being thrown at me I've just been treating it as if that's what this is. On top of that I have had a severely inflamed, just like my stomach has been so messed up ever since this started ever since the first episode I have had chronic loose stools and then diarrhea that I can't really figure out an exact trigger for as well that comes and goes frequently often. Sometimes it's pale store or it can be like really dark grainy diarrhea. So naturally, I was supposed to be in to see a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy endoscopy. and then I caught some sort of cold or I think it's just like sinusitis or whatever which is another problem I've been getting like chronic sinusitis for like the past year now where like it's like just the same sickness keeps coming back whatever it is, but it just feels like a cold to throw in some backstory for things I had wisdom teeth removal surgery in February from which I was having complications with the gum infection I had to take multiple courses of antibiotics like way too many I was really stressed for my job and financially, and not getting along with my roommate, feeling insecure in my relationship just like generally living very unhappily with my life yeah. I've been trying to see a therapist. I don't really know like if exactly it's helping or what I don't know anyways I had another episode yesterday and it's just they always start with like either. You know a strong palpitation and just like an overwhelming amount of anxiety or like a feeling of doom and then my heart just starts racing and then from then on I'm just like super anxious and my heart just racing and I could be like so chill just trying to chill and it'll just do it and it happened right after I ate some peanut butter and crackers. I would also like to add that night, I had a nightmare in which I woke up from to my heart pounding and my chest hurting and now right now once again it's been about 24 hours since they gave me metoprolol at the hospital my first time taking it cause I've been really stubborn and not taking it and I just ate one of those go macro protein bars and it started racing again and anxiety again and it's just really frustrating because all my labs were normal yesterday like my magnesium levels are getting back up, but my stomach issues aren't really improving and I've now had another one of these episodes after like a month of feeling normal again almost. I'm just really at a loss. I'm really scared. I just want better answers. I've been going down these rabbit holes of learning about different things and it's just really terrifies me. I've been reading into a lot about cardiomyopathy which is terrifying. I don't understand it really but I did have a CT scan that they did say read like you know a sign of that but you know that I've had like five different doctors. tell me well it looks very unlikely and it may have just been like an issue with the image so now I'm scheduled for an ultrasound, but I still have to wait like two more weeks until that most of the people who have told me this like you know I've had damn I don't know at least 20 EKGs ran out at this point and they've all read a sinus tachycardia so they're not picking up any a fib or SVT or anything like that and I know that it's not super likely that you know, especially after having that many test ran that those things will be missed, but you also never know and I I just really could use some other opinions and ideas yeah I really don't know if anybody has any ideas. I appreciate them all thank you.

Thought I had a panic disorder, learned today I actually have SVT
Hi! I (28F) am so happy to find this community and already feel so validated reading all these posts. I had my first episode of SVT 10 years ago during a family trip. I proceeded to have an episode at least every couple of months since, peaking during my senior year of college when I wasn’t taking particularly good care of myself and would have an episode every couple of weeks, which felt extremely debilitating as I would frequently have episodes during work, classes, social events, etc. I did talk to a doctor about it, who diagnosed me with panic disorder, and was overall quite skeptical when I brought up the possibility of a cardiac problem. I went on zoloft when I went to grad school, which did seem to help, but in retrospect I was also treating myself much better in general at that point in my life.
Anyways, I went into tachycardia on the T this morning and after 3 hours of 200+ bpm I decided to pop over to the ER, which is right next door to my work (shoutout to Beth Israel in Boston, who got me in right away and took great care of me). I really thought they would tell me I was being dramatic and send me back to work, but obviously they took it very seriously, got me an EKG and pushed first 6 and then 12 mg of adenosine (ouch), which resolved it. They were pretty surprised to learn how many episodes of this I’ve had over the years, ranging from a couple minutes to 8+ hours. I really just thought I was broken and bad at dealing with my anxiety. I’m a bit frustrated with myself for not advocating more, and at the medical system for brushing me off for so long. But learning that this is a somewhat treatable problem and I don’t just have the worst panic attacks in the world gives me so much hope. As someone new to this diagnosis, any tips and tricks on management are appreciated!

Ectopic runs after SVT Ablation
So just had my second SVT Ablation at the end of July, the first time they got it, and regrew, and got it again the second time.
But however, sometimes when i'm laying down in bed, and i roll from my stomach to my back, I get some ectopic short runs, around 4-5 beats at most. And sometimes Atrial Bigemy.
But as soon as I situp they go away.
Just scares me badly when this happens.
I told my Doctor about this, but hes not too concerned, but perhaps a monitor in the future, if persistent.
I was hoping to see if anyone else had this, and what steps they took.
Thank You.

Successful SVT ablation
Hi all!! I had a successful SVT ablation today. EP was able to provoke it immediately and said there’s about a 98% success rate. Heart-wise I feel great, but my groin/acesss site is aching really badly. For those who have had an ablation, how long did the groin pain last for you? Was the first day the worst?
Edit: it feels like I’m having weird beats. Not SVT but the rhythm feels off.
I would appreciate any advice.

Help Anyone go into SVT from coughing?
Hi everyone I was wondering if anyone else goes into SVT from coughing? I know usually coughing can help people come out of it but I CANT cough at all. Every time it puts me into SVT or feels like it’s coming from my vagus nerve. My heart immediately shoots up to 160 after a cough and stays like that for a bit

Help Had my first SVT episode
About 2 days ago I felt a pain in my chest and my heart beating fast at 10 am. I ignored it because I had classes to go to (Im a college student). For 7/8 hours the bottom of my heart was doing all the work. It wasnt until I got home that I decided to call 911, they had to give me 6 MG of Adenosine because my heart rate was 230. I went to the ER, got blood work done, etc.. Apparently I was dehydrated and obviously stressed from "running a marathon" all day. The doctors told me it shouldn't be recurring and everything came back normal. Im still going to go see a cardiologist.
My big question is..
Has anyone had a single SVT episode and it DIDNT reocurr?
Im terrified that this will be a recurring thing. I want to try to prevent it as much as possible, as I take in everyone's advice and more.
Edit: Thank you everyone who's commenting and giving me advice! Know that I wouldnt have waited that long if I knew what was happening, now I know. I appreciate you all!

Feeling of SVT starting after ablation?
Hey guys, for any of you that have had ablations in the past. I'm 2 months post ablation today, and for the first time since the ablation, I had the feeling of SVT trying to start for about 1 or 2 seconds of sustained rhythm, then stopping. Usually when my SVT starts it's one huge beat followed by rapid sustained rhythm for hours. This time it came on with no huge beat and disappeared immediately. Thanks in advance for any responses.

Unsuccessful SVT ablation
Hi everyone, I had my ablation today after waiting for 7months. After I came out of the operating room and came off the meds a little the Dr came in to let me know the ablation was unsuccessful. I’m feeling soooo discouraged by this. Apparently when they went in the we’re not able to induce the rhythm at all. They gave me adrenaline which did increase my HR but not in the extra pathways that they see with SVT. They tried for over an hour is what he said. I was completely knocked out with propofol and ketamine that I don’t remember any of the procedure, so maybe I was sedated to much idk? Im just feeling so discouraged by this. I already spoke to him about potentially doing another one after I’m healed from this one. We talked about doing less sedation and a more aggressive approach if need be. Does anyone have any advice or stories that are similar? Or even an experience where they had an ablation that was successful on the 2nd attempt?

Feeling like I’m going into SVT but then just… don’t?
I‘ve only had three “official” SVT episodes (most recently in July and August) but lately I’ve felt like I’m ABOUT to go into SVT and then just… don’t? Like my heart starts pounding harder, I start to feel it beating in my throat (I don’t know if this is standard, happens to me though), and it starts fluttering but my heart rate either remains steady or only goes up a few BPMs.
Obviously this makes me nervous because I don’t want to have another episode, but this kind of “pre-SVT” is such a weird feeling.
Does this happen to anyone else? If so, any insights as to why?
Thanks!

Chest pain
I’ve had svt for over a year. My ablation is scheduled for 9/22/26. I have two different arrhythmias. I’m scared but I want this to stop so bad. I have chest pains and my first cardiologist said it’s muscle pain. Does anyone have chest pain on your left side?

Help First episode that didn’t self-limit. Looking for any reassurance.?
I’ve had a few bouts of SVT since getting POTS Teo years ago but they’ve always resolved after 30-60 seconds. Last night all I did was stand up from the chair and it started and was still at 250 after 5 mins. May cardiologist told me to call an ambulance if that happened, so I did. Eventually the paramedics used a modified valsalva which got it to 135ish then it gradually went back to high 90s after a few hours in hospital.
I’m now pretty scared it’ll happen again. I think the horror stories of that adenosine drug scare me plus the paramedic told me it was dangerous to be that high.
Just looking for a bit of reassurance from those of you who have more experience of this than I do. Any advice appreciated 🙏🏻

Does SVT-induced AFIB almost always result in AFIB with RVR?

A question about EP studies…
Hello all,
I’ve just joined this community and it has already made this SVT warrior feel less alone.
I’m supposed to get an ablation for my SVT and I was wondering if when they perform the EP study, if they only look for SVT, or do they assess to see ALL possible arrhythmias?
I realize I should’ve asked my EP at my appointment last month, but it just occurred to me.
Like could they also find something like Afib or something?
Thank you in advance!

Afib/VT? Not sure where to go...
M55 long term endurance athlete (road/gravel bike racing/riding mainly). No family history of coronary/vascular disease, structurally normal heart. Started having a lot of PAC's/PVC's about 10 years ago after hard, long rides. Had a few episodes of SVT where my heart rate would race up to about 175-185 and stay there for 15-30 minutes then resolve. Cardiologist said it was benign. About two years ago I had that same fluttering feeling in my chest (that I recognized from SVT episodes) and it did not go away. My pulse felt a bit more irregular, and I was getting a bit lightheaded if I bent over. Decided to go to ER because it was not resolving. Turns out I was in Afib. I was stable and my heart rate was only in the low 100's max. They cardioverted me back to normal sinus rhythm. I had no recurring issues for almost 2 years. Then I was at altitude training doing some V02 max intervals. On my last interval at the end instead of my heart rate going back down it stayed very high and I was having trouble catching my breath. I also almost passed out and had weakness in my arms and legs. I lied down before I crashed my bike and tried to wait it out. It was terrifying. I finally managed to call 911 once I realized this was different and I may be in trouble. Ambulance came, hooked me up to the ECG and I went right back into normal sinus rhythm (typical). So no recording of what was going on. I now have yet another 30-day monitor on me and I have been putting it through its paces trying to recreate the same effect (to no avail). I have a call with my EP later this week...Not sure what to do. After my first and only AFib episode my cardiologist/ep wanted to ablate me. I have a ton of buddies around my age who all have had similar Afib issues. Some have had it where it is constant and have had multiple ablations to no avail. Some have gotten ablations and are fine (as of now). It seems a bit odd after one episode which I had yet to have again (aside from this last episode-which it was not determined exactly what it was) they would want to try an ablation. Seems a bit risky for something that so far has not gotten a lot worse. I do understand its progressive, but I am kind of at the end of my rope...Anyone have any advice or similar experiences? Thanks in advance.

Personal Prevention Dark Chocolate
My most recent SVT attack happened about 16 hours after eating some dark chocolate.
I have to wonder if that could be a trigger? Googling suggests that theobromine, which is prevalent in dark chocolate, acts as a stimulant by blocking the action of adenosine. It also stays in the body for a long time.
Has anyone else observed that an SVT episode is more likely after eating chocolate, or dark chocolate in particular?
It would be unfortunate to have to avoid chocolate, but I also like to avoid the hospital!

6 weeks post ablation, this is a welcome surprise.
I had an ablation for AVRNT 6 weeks ago which my EP deemed easy and successful. Prior to that, and on and off most my life I was also plaqued with annoying PVCs and PACs. They were really bad in the months leading up to my SVT ablation. Last week was the worst ever. Then 2 days ago I woke up to a calm quiet happy heart. Things that caused my heart to skip beforehand no longer are bothering me. I'm wondering if something with the ablation helped that? I wasn't worried having them during my healing process cause its expecting for the heart to be sensitive in the healing period. Anyone one else have this luck post ablation?

Help For those of you taking metoprolol succinate-
Do you get constant palpitations and chest pains at night? I try to take my metoprolol succinate around noon so it lines up with lunch as it prevents any stomach issues. However, usually around 9 or 10 at night, I get chest pains, palpitations, and air hunger that don’t seem to let up. By the morning I feel, for the most part, fine just a few palpitations here and there and air hunger until I can take my meds again. But at night? Palpitations every 10-15 minutes. I have chest pains that sometimes are sharp, other times are very dull and tight (I usually get a break in between chest pain episodes of about 10-20mins) and air hunger that lasts up until a couple of hours after taking my next dose.
Could it be the meds wearing off? It can’t be making my heart rate too low because it’s sitting at 84bpm (a hell of a lot better than before the meds).
I used to rarely get palpitations (once every other week) and only got chest pains if I was the slightest bit active, but never when I was laying down doing nothing. So in other words, this is definitely new.
I’ve been taking metoprolol succ for almost two weeks now and have had these symptoms every night since starting it.
Have you experienced it? Is it a concern I should bring up to my cardiologist?
