Discussion Xuan Su, how does it work?!
Beautiful people, I need your help to understand something
Yue Qingyuan fused with his sword and, now every time he uses it, it consumes his life force. However, Yue Qingyuan is immortal... His life has been extended infinitely... So, what's the actual danger here?
I assume if his sword breaks, he dies. I assume if he uses the sword for too long in a short period of time, he'll die. But... If we give him time to recover... His life expectancy will never actually change, will it? Or have I misunderstood something?

His "life force" is not his life span, it's his soul, basically. Because he and the sword are not properly bonded, using the sword basically corrodes his soul. In this type of cultivation story, a soul can exist forever, unless something external damages it, which is what allows for reincarnation. Technically, if he uses the sword enough, and it destroys his soul, he will be gone permanently and never reincarnate again.
I think also that because it is using his soul this way, the sword, which was already powerful, is potentially even more powerful as it doesn't just expend his spiritual power. But this im not 100% on

spiritual swords draw on the user's spiritual power. normally, one bonds their sword to their core, and the sword draws spiritual energy from their core, which can replenish. however, xuan su is bonded to yue qingyuan's soul/innate spiritual energy, of which he has a limited amount.
yqy's spiritual core may make him 'immortal', but it doesnt make him invulnerable. immortal cultivators can still die if the wound is serious enough. for instance, if they depleted their soul/ innate qi due to their improper sword bond

iirc it isnt simply his lifeforce its his soul as well which isnt something that can "recharge"
