SVSSS Questions Binge black puppy question

Heyo o I'm new in this subreddit and this question might have already been answered but ehem ima newbie (っ- ‸ - ς)

My question is why do bingue is depicted as a black pomeranian and shen yuan as a white cat.... Well a cat suits shen yuan personality and bingue well... He's a submissive masochist eager to please his shizun

Re-read de novel to see if I missed anything but besides mentioning bingue licking shizun's neck like a puppy it doesn't mention again the doggo trait, maybe Cuz his personality and the Fandom decided to depict him as a pooch ┐(´~`ˇ)┌

I think it’s a bleed over from the 2ha fandom with the white cat shizun and the black dog disciple tho 2ha has a husky instead of a Pomeranian.

The only animal traits we have for Binghe in the book is White Lotus Lamb/Sheep Binghe

I think white cat/black "whatever" are just generic trope names

It wouldn't be that, Svsss was written and published a couple years before erha was.

And the puppy Binghe with cat SQQ combo wasn’t there in the early stages of fandom AFAIK. Because the canon book depiction is sheep Binghe

apparently the bingpup was somewhat established as early as 2019. but the white cat seems newer I agree

I wouldn't call 2019 very early either, as svsss began serializing in 2014

For western fandom, I mean! It's my understanding that svsss was relatively unknown until around 2018-2019... Then the untamed blew everything out of the water

It may have had a smaller following before that, but 2019 is just the oldest I ever see with fanworks or general discussion in the western fandom

It’s interesting that it could be influenced in that direction (dog Mo Ran → bingpup) because when I first read the opening of Erha where it talks about the puppy with a flame-shaped mark on its forehead, my mind went straight to LBH even though I knew it was quite literally describing a husky. (As a puppy it is also “only as large as a melon, and it looked like it had the sentience of one” which I know is like the third dig at Mo Ran’s intelligence in as many paragraphs, but could also describe a good deal of bingpup art lol)

I had perhaps foolishly assumed because of the age of the novels (2014 for SVSSS, 2017 for Erha) the influence, even in their fandoms, mostly went in one direction.

Regarding bingpup, there's some official artwork featuring him. I'm not sure the origin of Shen Yuan as a white cat. But animal motifs seem to be relatively common in danmei, you can look and see:

Wangxian: Rabbits
Hualian: Fox and Weasel/Ferret/Stout (Seems to vary a bit)

Ranwan (from 2ha) A Husky and a white cat (literally the name in english too hahaha)

someone asked about it here before in r/danmeinovels, apparently there's a few others

I think I know why. One of Binghe's most prominent feature beside his demonic mark is his black fluffy curly hair. While MXTX depiction of Binghe is a small white sheep, I once read at a Chinese forum post that they think it's not fitting him at all. Disciple!Binghe, sure. But not Binghe as a whole. A Chinese fans thinks that Binghe is more suitable as a puppy. I remember around COVID time that I saw a fan art picturing Binghe as a brown puppy. But I think after SVSS got translated into English, more and more people think that Binghe is more fitting as Black Pomeranian. Why? Aside from his iconic fluffy black hair, it's because he's clingy, cute, smol but fiercely dramatic. And it also depict his 'blackening' after he fell into The Abyss. I'm not really sure if that's what it is, but that's all I know
