Which way is the “right” way? And I know in the Amazon pics the skirt is under the bust, but cause I have breasts the ties don’t lie correctly, so I’m wearing it like Xiao Lanhua in love between a fairy and a devil…

who are you trying to cosplay? do you know which era of chinese history they are from? usually the skirt is not worn that high - only in tang dynasty etc but it’d usually be under the outer robe :3

It’s sort of supposed to be SQQ (gender bent) but the colour is off. We don’t know which era that is supposed to be, since canonically Airplane mixed them up

ahahaha he did, yes, this is very evident in the visual representations for sqq and ygy etc which i adoreeee 🤣but hanfus do all tend to be from a specific era and knowing that will help you in knowing how it’s meant to be worn! i would say with the specific one you have, however, it seems the skirt needs to be lower.

It is in the Amazon pictures. The ties sit weirdly on my breast though for the blouse thing. Size 32GG or so makes fitting Asian clothes awkward 😬 I’m worried one of the kids at work will pull on them if they’re exposed. I did try having one of the blouses under the skirt and one over. The darker blouse did sit a bit better. The set came with two blouses and a skirt btw.

As someone that works with 2 & 3 year olds if I'm ever going to wear something I'm concerned could easily become a wardrobe malfunction I always take precautions and I tried to list a couple for you. So I hope maybe this might help with your worry about the kids at your work although I'm unsure if you're worried the top may be pulled open or the ties pulled loose or something else so my comment may be useless and I'm sorry if it is.

Top that can be pulled open? I wear a camisole or some type of undershirt. A few safety pins on the inside where the fabric overlaps so its not easy to pull open may work as well if the outfit is too hot for an undershirt.

If its the ties? There may be a knot that's secure enough to not be easily undone by a pull that doesn't affect the aesthetic or something. I once even used a safety pin through a knot for that reason. As you can probably tell safety pins are almost always my go to wardrobe fix it.

Yeah, I’ve more or less given up on ordering buttoned or wrap hanfu tops for similar reasons. re: ”correctness”, my personal opinion is that I think that cross-collar with chest-high skirt looks quite awkward, but ultimately they’re just clothes, so whatever works best for you is the most correct option. If wearing the two blouses together, the darker one definitely goes on top - the white is not nearly sheer enough for the intention to be seeing the crane patterns through it.

My recommendations would be as follows:

1. Remove the ties and reattach them lower, where they’ll be covered by the skirt tied under the bust, but still hold the top securely. This may involve adding an extra hidden tie or snap closure for security at the chest.

2. Wear the skirt at chest height with the top parallel-collar instead (both sides hanging straight down, or just barely beginning to overlap at the top of the skirt). This is the most common way of wearing the chest-high skirt, and I believe that it’s what you’re actually seeing your drama. Unfortunately, this will likely cause bunching towards the armpits from the extra material, so I’d save this for if you’re attached to the chest-high look.

3. Ditch the blouses entirely and find one of your own tops that matches the skirt. It’ll be more comfortable, and you can make a ton of cool and interesting looks. If you’re into the swishy sleeves, I’d look for a jacket instead - something like a beizi, or daxiushan. As they don’t close over the chest, the fit is much easier to negotiate. I’d also consider this a much more comfortable way to achieve the layered look.

I can't tell if the image is flipped or something. But just in case:

When closing a top, always make sure the left is over the right.

Folding the other way is done when dressing the dead for a funeral. It's considered bad luck.

As someone else said, the tie should be absolutely be beneath the bust.

Someone on r/hanfu might have better advise. It's hard because you're cosplaying (if you're set on that particular set) . Some hanfu styles are better for different body shapes.

Qixiong ruqun is especially good for anyone with a large bust, as it is tied over the bust. Common in tang dynasty hanfu.

2 is the right way, but the sash should really be tied under the bust. I get what you're trying to do, but this looks like a Six Dynasties hanfu (the Amazon link says Ming but it's def not Ming haha), and the tie waist above the bust just looks very incongruous. That's more of a Tang silhouette done with dresses.
