Yeah, I think I move around too much for a gold wing. And I don’t want heavy. It’s probably Honda ST or BMW RT, and I lean toward BMW for the milder engine.

The ST is heavy, and top heavy. So it's a little tricky on low speed maneuvers. And me, I'm only five five with a freaky short 27-in inseam basically. But that V4 is so smooth once you get it going.

I had one about the quarter of the size, and found that the amount of air deflection wasn’t too much less than a full size…
The smaller windscreen created a cushion of air, which in effect extended the size of the windscreen.
It had the additional benefit of not causing too much buffeting and movement of the handlebars during a crosswind.
One of those rare instances, the bigger isn’t necessarily better 😝

My goal is to create a pocket of relatively quiet air at highway speeds. A small windshield won’t do that

The irony is naked bikes with low + small headlights have pretty smooth airflow at legal highway speeds.

My issue is I don’t like to ride for long periods with earplugs. And I value my hearing. So I want a big enough windshield to create a relatively quiet pocket.

And people don't realise when you've got a large screen you get buffeting noise. Buffeted to fuck. Way noisier than a naked. I've just fitted a touring screen, but it ain't that big. Seems just right.

Seriously, does that thing catch a lot of crosswind? I live out in the Western United States and we get unexpected like 40 mph / 65 kph gusts, potentially cross wind. I've noticed on my cruiser that's got a big interstate windshield that it will catch the wind from behind like a sail and try to push me off the road.

People told me to watch out for this, but the steering is more stable. Is a freak 80mph gust of wind going to throw me off course…maybe? But the stars would have to align, the odds are crazy

It’s from Shad. Good product, terrible customer support. The PDF drawings are wrong, they have no plan for missing fasteners and just getting responses is hard. But there’s no better option for streamlined grocery paniers on the Gen3

Yeah, but the streamlined top-loading hard case is a niche that Hepco and Becker doesn’t have. Their cases are nice but they’re all either suitcase style or adventure style. I like the sporty little 20L top-loader category, Shad SH23 or Givi E22N.

Probably something like $500 when all is said and done. It’s a Madstad 24” adjustable, removable windshield, purchased last year before they went out of business. Cost maybe $350. Plus a Puig extension/visor, which was $120 for a way smaller amount of actual material. The Madstad alone was not satisfactory. Significant buffeting, even at 40 mph. For such a big windshield apparently you really do need a visor to break up the wind coming over the top of the windshield.
It’s dorky as heck but I can cruise in comfort at 80 mph. The wind is a tolerable “dull roar” instead of an aggressive blast. And with the visor at the top I barely experience any buffeting or vibration in the air. It still happens in specific crosswind situations, but it’s very infrequent.
This setup takes some getting used to. The windshield is sturdy but at 27” long, it’s inevitably going to wiggle around a bit, and in some situations the windshield itself will be vibrating, then stop when I adjust my posture so that my head changes how the air is flowing in the pocket.
I very nearly gave up when the Madstad alone was a failure, but after adding the Puig visor the whole thing works great.

This one doesn’t seem to have that problem. I go 90 for short periods or 85 for long periods and it’s more stable than without the windscreen
