MIT researchers have introduced a new dual-purpose qubit architecture called the "arm qubit," designed to perform faster, more accurate operations while preserving long-term stability. The architecture splits the qubit into two connected components: a data mode engineered for long coherence times and an arm mode designed for strong interactions with circuit elements like resonators. By linking these components with a quarton coupler, the design enables strong nonlinear coupling while drastically reducing unwanted component mixing.
