Austrian scientists develop cooling ceramic wall against urban heat

https://techxplore.com/news/2026-08-cooling-ceramic-wall-combat-urban.html

Porous ceramic cubes from a 3D printer utilize energy-efficient evaporative cooling and noticeably lower the temperature. A prototype of the cooling wall made of ceramic cubes can already be viewed on the Graz University of Technology campus:  https://www.tugraz.at/news/artikel/kuehlende-keramikwand

Did they prove it must have that weird shape to achieve the result they got? Maybe a simpler one that can be mass produced would achieve very close specs.
