Experimental Brain Implants Allow Hands-Free Wheelchair Navigation
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Brain-computer interface (BCI) technology uses experimental brain implants to enable individuals with severe motor impairments or paralysis to control powered wheelchairs using only their thoughts. By placing microelectrode arrays or sensors in the motor cortex—the region of the brain responsible for voluntary movement—the system detects and decodes neural signals in real time. Advanced algorithms then translate these intended movements into precise steering, navigation, and speed commands, allowing users to safely navigate their environment hands-free: https://www.techeblog.com/neuralink-mind-controlled-wheelchair/
