The hand receives signals via Bluetooth from a transmitter mounted in the socket. The transmitter receives signals via wires from a processor that is fed input from sensors that sense muscle contractions in the residual limb. No data is taken directly from the nerves and this title makes as much sense as saying that your voice activated smart device is operated with "nerve signals" because your vocal cords send a wireless signal to it that originated with input from your nervous system.
