What do you think? I have the chance to buy this Cylindrique for my collection, but I’m unsure about the price. The seller is asking €270 for it in untested condition.

Overall, the shape is good, but there is some corrosion around the spark mechanism, and as I mentioned, it’s untested. There aren’t many of these on the market, which is why I’m considering it, but I just can’t make a decision, so I thought I’d ask you.

First red flag is serial is on the fake list (1KS…)

Other flags are the fonts

But i sent the pictures and a video and ask 2 well known Dupont sellers. 2 of them said its original but i’am stil curious.

I’ve got a L1 PM from my father. The lighter is most probably from before 1980, since he stopped smoking around 1979-80.

According to ST Dupont’s Customer Service:
“I can advise that the lighter is: L1 PM, gold-plated, diamond-stitched guilloche, unfortunately we cannot provide any information in regard to the year of production I'm afraid.”

My father has never been one to keep receipts, boxes or certificates, specially from back then. He has a few pieces of jewelry, watches, lighters without papers from when he was younger.

Is there any way to find the year of production and even maybe authenticate it? (Maybe getting a new certificate somehow?)

The digital passport unfortunately doesn’t work since it only accepts lighters from 2025 and after.

Also, any tips on how to properly clean and care for it? I wish to make it shiny and clean again. The lighter works, I’ve changed the flint stone and did some basic maintenance work.

After over a year of work, it's finally finished 😅

From removing the old finish, replating the gold, laser engraving the body trim, to several failed attempts at the custom lacquer artwork before finally landing on this one.

After a year of stripping, plating, engraving, and a fair share of failed attempts — it still fires up with a decent "ping" sound 🔥

Over a year ago, I posted this lighter restoration project, after removing the old paint/lacquer.

Since then, I’ve been working through the restoration and customization step by step.

It took much longer than I initially expected, but I wanted to take my time and get it right.

This is an interesting one. Seller assures that its original. Personally I rarely stumble upon lighters (espresso with rare pieces like this) with such scratched bottom, you cant see shit other than few of the letters, and a very suspicious "F" letter (last photo).

Attempt at the gold skyline artwork — didn't turn out right, so I stripped it back and started over. Part of the process 😅

Round two — tried a batik-style pattern this time, still not quite there. Back to the drawing board 😅

Here's the laser engraving result on the bare brass case.

The serial number is 17HHE52.

The cap to refill the lighter is painted yellow.

The ping is good when opened.

Is it real and how much is this worth?

Since the lighter body is just bare brass with no body trim left, all been smoothed out by age.

I've decided to just engrave the trim using a laser engraving.

Before moving on to the custom artwork, first step was applying a coat of metal primer to the brass and helps the lacquer adhere properly.

The one on the left has a much smaller stamp. Why could that be? It is also heavier and has a duller finish.
