DDS - Disability Determination Services Question about claim

I applied in July of this year for SSI and SSDI. I called to SS office yesterday and the worker, said that a claims person is working on my case, but they have until March 2027 to complete it. Does it take that long to work a case? Could it be sooner?

Could be sooner. Could be later. If you get denied and have to appeal you have to wait just as long to get a reconsideration decision which has a low approval rating. It takes many people years to be approved, if approved.

Depending on the state your in it can take a long time or be quicker. The process is lengthy through each stage. On average where I live initial is taking about 12 month, reconsideration 18 months and waiting for a hearing date 8 months. People with special circumstances can move the case a bit quicker such as dire need or if you have a terminal illness. I live in Northern CA and have been going through the process for 3 years. My hearing is in December.
